Great songs heard on radio

Mustang Sally was first made famous by Wilson Pickett in 1966.

However, it was originally written & recorded by Mack Rice in 1965.

“Real song, but fake band”. Much like Spinal Tap

No different to The Archies. I didn’t realise The Commitments were manufactured in this sense. This ‘Mustang Sally’ cover was one of the biggest hits of the early 90s and one of the songs I most remember from Rage as a youngster.

He released a song “there’s nothing you can do” in the early 90’s. Its worth a google & once again is a strong vocal

After crediting Rebel for playing Dire Straits’ Telegraph Road, only fair I acknowledge that 4MMM Brisbane played the same track just after 9:30 this morning. Sadly I only caught the last few minutes, but that pure, unadulterated guitar rock was still very enjoyable (again) - I doffs me cap to them

Superstar by Murray Head on 4KQ this morning :+1:

‘Any Way You Want It’- JOURNEY

Sky Sports Radio. Not played in full as it was filler before a race call, but still astounding. I have never before heard this on any Australian station.

(PS- I was going to post this in the ‘Did They Really Just Play That’ thread but I can’t seem to find it. Was it nuked? A pity, as I felt it did have a place here).

It’s still there … also under ‘General Radio and Digital’…

Yes I see it now- couldn’t see it under ‘all topics’ for some reason.

Looks like this song has been added to 2UE’s playlist:

Can’t listen to it without hearing “What’s all that about?” or “Cool for cats, Bridgestone cats”.

Had to YouTube that Bridgestone ad…before my time (well, I was born in the year that it aired).

‘Cool For Cats’ is on one of my playlists for my future show on Braidwood FM. It is preceded by Captain Sensible’s ‘Wot’ and followed by ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ by The Tokens. Yep, it won’t be your average safe listening experience.

Yes, I know it’s a community station, and it was on late at night - after midnight, in fact - but I just had to add this:

THE ALLUSIONS - The Dancer
On CoastFM 96.3 Gosford, during Classic Hits Overnight.

What an awesome Aussie track from the 60s! I’ve had it stuck in my head all day today. Whoever programs the music for CoastFM does a damn good job.

Yeah- that is a top pop tune out of the 60s. Right up there with ‘Needle In A Haystack’.

Fantastic song. I love the first few notes of the intro especially.

Thanks to the guy who requested these underplayed tunes this afternoon as part of Gold 104.3’s ‘Totally 80s Triple Play’!

Endless Road - Time Bandits
Hold On - Models
Bitter Desire - Kids In The Kitchen

Yes, they were played consecutively!

Great songs. There will never be another 80s. We just took for granted an endless supply of great new songs coming out every month.

The 80s should have lasted for longer than a decade. It was a big mistake to let it end in 1990.
