Gold Network

Christian has written a long Instagram post reflecting on the past two years, and also posted a letter of apology from a listener.

This sums up the last two years Of my radio life since moving to Australia two years ago.

The show marks two years today and nothing could’ve prepared me for the wild ride it’s been. From show 1 it was made very clear I was ‘uninvited’ ‘not wanted down under’ and ‘boring as bat shit’. But, you gave me a go. Which is pretty incredible.

Despite doing breakfast radio 22 years I’ve learnt more and grown more in the last 24 months and that is down to the amazing support from our radio family here in Melbourne, now across Australia and all over the world with the podcasters.

I meant what I said this morning on air. The show is me, @jackpost @patrinajonesnewman, and you. The stories and jokes I get everyday from you are what makes the show

Thank you

For your honest feedback in the early days, which only made me dig deeper, and your joy in what we are building now.

Thanks to a daredevil who dared to bring a British DJ out here, Duncan Campbell. What was he thinking?

Thanks to Jack and Pats for being open to everything.

And thank you x

I thought they already aired at 6pm weeknights

They used to, but they haven’t aired Jonesy & Amanda highlights on that timeslot for the last few years.

That means from Tuesday, WS & Gold will air highlights of WS’s breakfast show from Sydney at 6-7pm, followed by highlights of Gold’s breakfast show from Melbourne at 7-8pm.

Finally, some consistency.

On KIIS, it’s Kyle and Jackie O at 6pm, followed by Jase and PJ at 7pm. Except in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, where O’Connell airs at 7pm followed by Jase and PJ at 8pm. Except that Perth doesn’t take Jase and PJ. And Melbourne airs an extra hour of Kyle and Jackie O, pushing Jase and PJ back to 8pm.

On Pure Gold now it’s Jonesy and Amanda at 6pm, and O’Connell at 7pm. Except in Adelaide and Brisbane.

4KQ are having another weekend of songs that didn’t quite make it to number one.

Wisely they have decided against naming it a Weekend of Number 2’s

River 949 might have had one of those weekends, Drew Chapman knows his market well.

4KQ’s almost number one weekend song listing.

I wish wsfm had 4kq’s format.

The only thing I don’t like about WSFM’s playlist is the narrow selection of songs.

4KQ has a bit too much 60s/70s for my liking…

I still think ARN should run the Pure Gold (WS/Gold) and Classic Hits (4KQ/Cruise) formats in all markets using DAB.

I would remove 80s and 90s channels and use more bits to make the sound better. I like the idea of a wsfm classic hits version on dab.

Make it WS70s and WS60s

I Heart Radio has Iheart60’s Radio and Iheart70’s radio on their online app

They should bring those 2 stations to DAB+

Ugly Phil O’Niel filling in for Mike Hammond on WSfm

Wonderful, great that he’s getting some work.

An excellent radio talent, out of a long term job due to the bland, unimaginative and cash strapped broadcasting prism by commercial broadcasters.

God is Mike Hammond still around? Talk about a survivor.

Correct, another survivor like Phil.

Mike’s gone from radio to TV presenting to voiceovers and now back to radio whilst maintaining a profile for v/o and presenting/MC’ing gigs.

I see that he’s been in quarantine in Sydney since returning from the UK. Is his UK stint over?
