I was just having a listen to Gold 80s on Sydney DAB+ (first time in a while) and they’re still running sweepers like “WSFM is now Sydney’s Gold 101.7” … which I think they stopped running on FM well over 6 months ago.
Having said that, it was nice to hear WSFM mentioned on air again!
I listened to the I heart stream for Gold Brisbane last night.
Soo many ads, especially for a Satruday night, huge long ad breaks. One ad break had no fewer than 3 insurance company adverts and a funeral home in Adelaide.
Probably aren’t selling enough ads, I would’ve thought they’d be offering spots on the DAB station as bonuses for advertising on FM. But the easy solution would be to play less ads.
Agree. Tha add load is ridiculous especially for a DAB+ only station. And with so many similar options, it any easy pre-set away to Heart, Heart Hits, Smooth or one of the decade stations.
Sadly, GOLD DAB+ Brisbane will be very underwhelming for Brisbane listeners expecting something similar to the old 4KQ. Instead, you’ve got GOLD Syd & Melb playlist and format.
I find the same it’s just ok musically. I find myself back on Breeze, Heart, Smooth and Rebel. It’s nice to have another choice though I guess.
It would still do great if it was on FM though, given the lack of any mainstream FM competition. I still think they should have gone Gold 97.3. It would be rating it’s ass off IMO. Look at the combined ratings for Smooth and Gold in Syd//Mel - that’s what Gold 97.3 would be rating. I just don’t know how ARN are not seeing that opportunity. They could literally have zero staff and local content and be rating 18%
First day back at work since Gold Brisbane launched, and my first proper listen during the day — are J&A always this painful? I’ve got 45 minutes left in my shift and instead of music to drag me over the line, I’m getting wall-to-wall talking. Someone really needs to tell J&A that this isn’t breakfast radio. Long, rambling stories might fly in the morning, but in the afternoon it’s just exhausting.
Gold itself isn’t bad, to be fair… assuming you can survive the industrial-strength slabs of ads.
