ARN has a trademark pending on the Gold logo. Not sure they could claim anything here just because the colours are extremely similar… but nothing that would stop a cease and desist either.
Not in Perth, but yes, ARN was first elsewhere. It is clear where the inspiration came from.
It’s the same when rumours were about that SCA was keen to purchase i98FM Wollongong. Next minute, we saw WaveFM update their logo to the (then) Hit Network pink & blue colours.
I don’t think the similarity is anywhere near enough to cause any problems. It’s very difficult to trademark a colour. It usually has to include other elements of design. If 6iX change it, it’ll be out of choice rather than necessity
Even the font, including the angling of the font, is the same, not to mention the colours (albeit reversed). Surely 6IX could have chosen a different yellow instead of that…
You’re really gonna split hairs about pantones? They’re both bright, banana yellow with black in the mix, an italicised sans-serif font, with something “music-associated” (ie. an old school radio or a guitar pick) in the background.
So we now have a legitimate Gold Network station and a ripoff Gold Network station in Perth now. The Capital Radio Network’s station copies every element (sort of) of the Gold Network logo.
Couldn’t agree more, their old branding actually had some form of identity to it! Sure it was old but it actually felt “forever classic”
It shits me that they haven’t fixed the website colours across a lot of the network either, with the blue look largely in the style template still.
It’s like someone and Capital Radio thought stealing the Gold look would help confuse listeners into listening to them instead?
It’s so so ugly. The gold logo isn’t bad but isn’t incredible either. I almost want to send them an entire redesigned package for free.
Also they’ll ALWAYS have that on air imaging they’ve used on the network for years. Why alter the face if the sound stays the same. Feels more “somewhat classic” now
