Good so he doesn’t have to stay up all night now

The Christian O’Connell Show – Up All Night – airs Monday to Saturday from 3AM to 5AM on 96FM.

Just air him 4-7am and have local breakfast from 7-10am on 96fm under the new arrangement?

while i am not denying a rebrand entirely (as there have been signs of new imaging and positioning for 96fm), but need i remind everyone the result of the Canberra FM stations doing something dramatic only to reveal a return of a fireworks show a day later back in 2023 - from this thread

all i am saying is that, maybe keep expectations in check lol

Going back to what I said earlier, if it was to be a 96FM rebrand, why does the teaser only say it is the biggest announcement “this year”.

If it were a rebrand, I’d say something like, “in years”.

Rebrand or not, the 96FM format will have to change to accommodate Gold on DAB. Expect it to skew younger with more 90s and 2000s songs.

The discussion about how poor JAM’s 25-54 audience was on Game Changers was interesting with such a massive 65+ audience. No doubt the prior older music format didn’t help. They clearly want a younger sound and style on air to bring the age down.

I don’t know that it will too much… FM still has a lot more penetration than DAB, the latter is still very much a complementary service.

Though the strange thing is that the WSFM rebrand was a time to relaunch to sound younger - but the ‘Gold’ brand is about as far away from young sounding as you can get.

They had a chance to establish the brand in Sydney with a bit less baggage than it has in Melbourne, but their demo problems would suggest that hasn’t worked.

Gold should be playing 1-2 recurrents an hour to fully shake the ‘classic hits’ legacy, enough to keep their logs fresh but not step too closely on the toes of KIIS.

True but they did ditch the golden colours for something more modern, the name is also so iconic in Melbourne they couldn’t change it and Melbourne doesn’t have a demo problem.

Daggy WSFM was the problem. Shifting JAM and bringing in someone with a fresher sound who can appeal to that demo might work to take them out of last place in that demo while not damaging the entire station like K&JO.

It will have to, if Gold is going to be a success in Perth, and not cannibalise 96FM and vice versa. Smooth went younger in the months leading up to the Smooth Relax launch, even though it was on DAB, it’s now a successful extension.

Why? If anything they need to be more worried about Smooth’s dominance on DAB in Perth.

Watch Lisa “leave” now too - with Christian piped into 96FM.

Here’s hoping Clairsy jumps back to SCA & Mix94.5 in 2026, with ARN networking everything.

Clairsy on Triple M

92.9 was his OG network when it was called PMFM 92.9 which has since rebranded to a Triple M network and SCA reverting Mix 94.5 to a hit network affiliate

Mix 94.5 was aligned to Triple M with the former aligned to 2Day/Hit from 2005-2020

What legend
Remember first listening to Clairsy when he was 17 years old.

Or Kyle…

Now that we know what the announcement is, I still hold this opinion.
