What was the video for?

oddly enough, I can still see it

it was them making fun of Christian O’Connell taking over brekky - this was the caption:

Congratulations to the new OLD FM breakfast crew; Christian O’donnell, Simon O’Donnell & Brian O’Driscoll 👏

Oh my, did they see your Tongue-in-cheek mocks?

Surely they would’ve for them to have used the term OLD FM in their post!

Big News to be announce at 7.30 Monday morning on 96fm.
Could they be changing there call sign
To Gold96fm!!

seriously, they better tread lightly here
national syndication is taken very poorly here in Perth

I doubt we’ll see Gold96FM given the announcement already that Christian’s program will be on DAB+ in Perth.

I predict they’re making it KIIS.
Can’t have Christian national without Vile Kyle or he’ll be gwumpy

This could all just be a promotional stunt, you know.

Well technically they wouldn’t be changing the callsign, just the station’s on air name. I assume 96fm’s callsign is still 6NOW.

They could, like when 6PPM became 6MMM when 92.9 rebranded from Hit to Triple M.

They’re changing their name to KIIS96.1, after…

We all thought (and knew with confidence) that it would become Gold96.1 and ditch the KIIS branding, but after reading this clarified news I’m suggesting KIIS96.1 now.

Consider this 96fm’s final months on-air with the 96fm name and Classic Hits format before the inevitable change to the KIIS name, colours, pitched up Top 40/CHR/Pop/Dance and the introduction of the K&J show into Perth for Breakfast on a 2-hour (3-hour in DST) delay.

From 6NOW to 6NEW! New music most of the time and on repeat! /s

Well said. You would have to be right on the money. /s

It’ll be a shame for Perth to lose a heritage name that has stood the test of time. Now replaced by the overlords of K&J whose show is seeking to go national on FM in the capitals. It’s clear Kyle wants his show on FM in all major capital cities and Christian on DAB+ because of 2 possible outcomes.

  1. Kyle wants his Sydney show to be the flagship show nationwide and appeal to a young audience. Also note that he doesn’t really care about Melbourne so I wouldn’t expect him to do the same for Brisbane and Perth (and potentially Adelaide). His (and Jackie’s) show is Sydney-centric.

And…

  1. Kyle wants Christian’s show on DAB+ because he feels it’s more suitable for the baby boomers. In reality, people of all ages are likely to give Christian’s show a try and come to love him. Probably more than K&J’s Sex Talk. Expect sales of DAB+ sets to explode if people don’t already rely on iHeartRadio.

Well Kyle, you want national syndication on FM instead of letting O’Connell have the spotlight on said band? Well it seems you win. But we’ll just switch off your show. Watch 96fm’s ratings plummet massively. Goodbye to a true Perth FM institution.

They will just be doing a secret sound promo…

I’d say that’s correct. Storm in a teacup. ARN would be outright mad to destroy the heritage 96FM brand considering it is rating quite well these days.

Clearly just another station tactic.

It’s only promoted as being the biggest news “this year”, not of all time. So I don’t think it’ll be a station rebrand.

Sure they could. But to what? ARN haven’t bothered with any of the other KIIS or Gold stations so don’t think they’d start now.

Gold Sydney is still 2UUS
Gold Melbourne is still 3KKZ

Over at KIIS
Sydney is 2WFM
Melbourne is still 3TTT
Brisbane is still 4BBB

That’s a very good point.

Interestingly, Christian’s show performs REALLY strongly in the critical 25-54 demo with a cumulative audience percentage of 10.6%. In comparison, J&A in Sydney pull a 5.9%. Explains a lot about ARN’s decision, and its identified opportunities in Sydney.

Melbourne breakfast 25-54 cume percentages

STATION CUME %
NOVA100 17.2%
FOXFM 13.5%
GOLD 10.6%
KIIS1011 9.5%
SMOOTH 9.3%
TRIPLE M 8.3%
3AW 5.0%

.

Sydney breakfast 25-54 cume percentages

STATION CUME %
KIIS1065 18.4%
NOVA969 12.9%
SMOOTH 12.5%
TRIPLE M 6.9%
2DAYFM 6.8%
GOLD 5.9%

I thought that had been changed to 3GLD… looks like they must have changed it back.

Could always use 6GLD in Perth, unlikely yes, but not impossible.
