I have a DAB clock radio Sony one . I am part of the club except I havenât selected Gold so its off topic i guess
.
your pretty good cranky⌠but are you close to @Radiohead - of that iâm not sure lol
If 2UE had a decent marketing budget - but being ran by ACE, Iâd say unlikely - they should flood the Sydney market with ads like âwondering where the classic hits went? Theyâre now on 2UEâ
Even be cheeky and have a picture of a tombstone with âR.I.P. WSFMâ!
Might steal a few share points off Gold 101.7
I started it but didnât think it would drift the thread so far off topic!
I have my phone in my bedroom but always turn it off at night. Can understand why people use the phone though because it is much easier. Iâm not old by the way!
If 2UE were serious, they would recruit ex-WSFM/2WS Sydney-based announcers to spearhead a local lineup.
This is half the reason why BBQ Bob is so popular on 4BH.
Using the Black Keys GOLD on the ceiling. Notably a song never played on WS FM, nor Gold 104.3, nor likely to be played either.
But then again, with Amanda and Jonesy talking about getting tattoos, maybe the MMM audience is who theyâre appealing to.
IMO the ad makes too much noise about WSFM rather than Gold101.7⌠with Jonesy even stating that he really wanted a WSFM tattoo over a Gold101.7 tattoo.
To me, it gives the perception that J&A even miss the old WSFM brand.
Thereâs a heap of billboards around Melbourne at the moment for Gold 104.3. One on the Princes Fwy inbound at Laverton stuck with me, as it read:
LESS BEE GEES
MORE BON JOVI
Iâm hardly the worldâs biggest Bee Gees fan, but even to me that sounds like a terrible change.
Why would you diss one band over another?
And a band with Aussie connections over one with none? Sure, their heyday might have been a bit earlier, but only really a decade or so.
Yeah, I found it weird tooâŚ
Doesnât sound weird to me. Two translations come to mind:
âIf you remember us playing the Bee Gees, those days are over, youâre too old for this station now. Weâre only going back to the 80s, not the 70s.â
and,
âThe Bee Gees? Who are they? But, Bon Jovi Iâve heard of, I should take a listen. Oh they also play Lady Gaga, I remember that song when I was a kid.â
Not saying I agree or disagree, but itâs their way of saying theyâre âmoving onâ and leaving you behind. And that they want some of that Triple M cume. My translation anyway.
Thatâs not what he says.
The line is âand you wanted to get a WS tattooâ.
Its mixed messaging to me.
I heard them play The Eagles âHotel Californiaâ (released in 1976) last night. Iâm sure thereâs other 70s songs they still play too.
Definitely nothing wrong with the Bee Gees music.
They probably should say âMore Music from the 80s to nowâ or something more general rather than targeting specific bands.
I get it, theyâve moved forward a decade and want you to know.
I just donât like Bon Jovi that much
But 40+ women do!
Iâm not sure why youâd say less Tay Tay when youâll inevitably have to play it in a few years - and maybe even already should be.
I agree, nothing against The Bee Gees. They did say âlessâ, and not ânoneâ, so thatâs a good point.
Theyâre wanting to shed their 65+ (and maybe even some 55-64) listeners for younger, higher disposable income demographics?
Smooth FM pretty much has those older age groups covered, so instead of trying to compete with Smooth, they could be looking to steal some younger listeners from Triple M and be dominant in the 40-54. âLess Tay Tayâ could also be a good indicator of that.
Agree. It just doesnât land well. ARN need a new advertising agency/department
