Probably due to consistent ratings… If I recall, KZFM was originally a success, but tanked later, giving them the opportunity to reset and rebrand earlier.
I thought KZ-FM was owned by the ACTU or FOX-FM when it rebranded to Gold and it was already called Gold when ARN acquired the station, so ARN had never done a rebrand.
Yeah I thought it rebranded before ARN bought it too.
I think with WSFM they probably should have just done a very gradual rebrand, starting with Gold 101.7 WSFM and then just gradually drop the WS over time. Don’t really see the need for any hoo ha TBH.
How long before they are networking workdays
This was the first thing that popped to my mind.
Does anyone else think this is a sign they’ve given up on buying Triple M, at least in the short term?
I kind of think if they do go full tilt with a national rollout of Gold then it seems to me less likely they will try again to acquire Triple M.
I think they would still try to buy it… still a way to shut out potentially serious competition.
Why wait? Rebrand WS/Gold into the market they want and then if they can get their hands on MMM network just keep those two stations and ditch 105.1 and 104.9 and keep 104.3 and 101.7 and the rest of the network.
given up on buying Triple M,
Or the opposite. Two Gold stations in name. Fully in sync, and maybe ARN retains rights to the WSFM name for the future.
Personally, my biggest concern is how much will they much will they switch the playlist to go after the younger end of that 25-54 demographic. I know they already play newer artists. But how much 80s are they going to let go and replace with songs from the last 10-15 years
I actually don’t mind the rebrand and new logo. Whilst it is sad to see a heritage “WS” (from 2WS) leave the market, it’s nice to see ARN commit to keeping their “other” network fresh and invested.
They’ve done this quite often in recent times. Ever since dropping “Good Times, Great Classic Hits”, to introducing “Pure Gold”, and “Better Music & More Of It”.
If “Just Great Songs” is their positioner, I think this’ll be a good thing for the networks.
I really just think they should’ve rebranded Cruise at the same time. It’s an interesting situation with Adelaide escaping both KIIS and GOLD rebrands.

Lucky them. I still like the MIX name.
Another thing - I’m assuming the studio line 13 WSFM will be changed with the rebrand?
Yet the logo is yellow
That logo looks so dodgy
Yes, what is with that awful yellow!!!
Why don’t they just change it to Yellow101.7? ![]()
Speaking of rebrands…. Should this thread become the Gold Network? Given that’s how ARN describes it on its website?
I suspect we won’t hear much about it on air until just before it happens.
Quite the opposite. I believe the marketing starts very; very soon
Does anyone else think this is a sign they’ve given up on buying Triple M, at least in the short term?
Not necessarily - there is a little bit of danger simply standing still and waiting for the opportunity to re-present itself to buy MMM.
Wikipedia page for WS-FM has been already been updated with the news of the re-brand Gold 101.7 - Wikipedia
It was @Radio_TVGuy
Yet the logo is yellow
Maybe ARN’s master plan is to Coldplay their audience into submission—cranking up their tunes so often that by the end of the day, their audience is walking around humming ‘Yellow’ without even realizing it!
I really just think they should’ve rebranded Cruise at the same time.
Possibly not far away…
