Torrie Lewis finished sixth in the women’s 200m. After the race, she told an AAP reporter that she had been told not to comment on the winner Adaejah Hodge.
(Hodge) was originally given a two-year ban after testing positive for the banned substance GW501516 while winning the 2024 world under-20 championships in Peru - a suspension that eventually meant Lewis was promoted from silver to gold.
The 20-year-old Hodge would not even have been competing in Glasgow if a deal hadn’t been struck in which she cooperated with the doping enquiry and had seven months lopped off her punishment, returning only in January.
Matt Denny has become the first man in 70 years to defend the discus title at the Commonwealth Games, winning gold with his best throw of 67.73 m.
And a huge upset in the netball competition, with defending champion Australia toppled by Jamaica 46-45 in the semi final. It’s the first time the Diamonds miss out on the final since the sport was introduced to the Commonwealth Games in 1998. Jamaica will now have a chance to claim a historic gold against New Zealand in Sunday’s final, while Australia will play England in the bronze medal match.

Australia’s men’s 4x100 relay team did not receive the gold medal until 11.30pm local time, due to late protests by Canada on their disqualification. Canada was reinstated to silver after winning the first appeal, but then there was a second appeal against that decision.

Australia defeated England 68-50 to claim bronze medal in netball, winning every quarter.
New Zealand won the netball gold medal for the first time in 2010 (the team’s third overall), beating Jamaica 56-48. The Silver Ferns won the first, third and fourth periods while the second period was level. The win will give NZ a psychological boost ahead of next year’s Netball World Cup in Sydney.

I don’t mind the Commonwealth Games, however the Games have already diminished the value of the competition. 4 years ago, they used to have 19 core sports alongside 8 para-sports, but this year they have reduced to 10 sports.
I feel that this year’s Glasgow 2026 Games are too one-sided due to Australia’s dominance. When the officials cut sports, it completely diminishes the competition. However, some athletes have pulled out of the Commonwealth Games due to various reasons. For example Kaylee McKeown pulled out due to glandular fever, while British athlete, Keely Hodgkinson chose to focus on the Diamond League and European Championships instead.
