It spins me out that the initial show was over and done within 95-96. I know I lived it… but with all of the series… 3 regular seasons, The Ashes, International Gladiators and another “Ashes” style series (wikipedia says Australia v Russia… I could have sworn there was an Australia v South Africa series - but then that’s where my memory is a bit hazy, I know while I loved the series… I didn’t really pay much attention when the third aired).

I know the show had a few “repeats” over the years, last recall it being on in the 2000’s during the day.

I will never forget the Full Frontal parodies “was that your plannnnnnnnnnnnnnn ?” :stuck_out_tongue:

The Russia series was probably one of the last things our series did from memory… the UK series did do a “Springbok Challenge” against the SAf show at one point, along the same lines as the Ashes (of which there were one of the latter in each year, in AUS first in 1995 then the UK in 1996).

I can see why there might’ve been fatigue, especially after the international series was on… with six countries competing when we were on it, it stretched on almost as long as a normal series in itself.

Can’t imagine hiring out the Brisbane Ent Cent was all that cheap at the time, given the lack of alternative venues there - but it at least gave them a size reminiscent of the UK arena at the time.
