Stand corrected on that one. But ABC World News was definately on 9, so it wasn’t totally foreign to Australian audiences.
I do recall a great Ad that Ten ran that quoted Bob Hawke praising CNN. Anyone have access to it?
Thanks Syd, thats it.

The 30 year anniversary of the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster is coming up in the next couple of days.
This is the TVQ 0 bulletin opener for that story from 29 Jan 1986. The opener was changed to to a sole headline with the vision and sound of the event used over the background news theme to good effect. John Wiseman reported from Florida. Also special closer used for the bulletin.
Also just uploaded this ABC News opener from that night. In this case they removed the headline totally and just went with the sound from the event. Richard Palfreyman reported from the US.
I remember that day but all i recall of TV coverage was news breaks during the afternoon reporting what happened and showing that famous footage.
It’s one of those days you remember where you were and what you were doing. I don’t remember the TV coverage, although the vision of the incident is seared into my brain because it has been replayed too often.
I do remember waking early and hearing about it on radio. It was one of the first days of the school year and, in an attempt to not embarrass myself at the school swimming carnival, I rode my bike to the local pool to practice (never did learn to swim properly). I just remember lying on my back, looking up at the sky and thinking about it.
There was an expert on some doco recently that stated the crew would’ve been alive alive until the capsule hit the ocean. I had never been aware of that. Sorry to be morbid but I had always assumed they would’ve perished in the initial explosion.

Today is the 10 year anniversary of that infamous Channel 9 relaunch. http://youtube.com/watch?v=GVF82q0SLjI

Looking back I think that the 2006 package in it’s original form was decent (although nothing could hold a candle to the iconic “seven colours for seven days” look which managed to last two generations), but the “warehouse” look that was launched around May of that year was just awful. As for 2007, lets not go there.
Above all else, I think the news relaunch was probably the biggest downgrade. It was quite simply a ridiculous idea to have a logo flying around Sydney as the news opener with supers that almost looked like cigarettes!
In the end though, I do think that Nine did the right thing by bringing back the dots to the logo and other traditional elements (in a modernised form, of course) to the presentation after 2008. The recent tweaks to include the Nine dots in the logos of the multichannels is just further proof that the iconic “Nine dots” are a very valuable element to the presentation of the network.
I agree. I liked the first presentation, but the news presentation was pretty bad. I did like the theme though.
I’ll be uploading a little mini montage at about 6 tonight. It goes for around 40 seconds. I’ve tried to include every presentation element there is.

Fun TV history trivia question I heard today - True of false? - Beverly Hills, 90210 was originally going to be called Potomac, 20854
That seems like it was true
Without referring to the Great Wiki, that sounds untrue. Who the heck would want to live in or near Potomac?
According to the likes of CNN and Forbes, it is one of the richest and highest educated areas of the US. That might have something to do with it?
If you have a look at this CV it might give a clue as well! - Note the place of birth.
