General News Events - Coverage Discussion

A 2-house fire was lead story on 7 and 9 Brisbane tonight - apparently they were simultaneously  first with the news/pictures - still don’t understand how that works.

Is it something like “the video recorded by a 7 (or 9) news cameraman was shown first on channel 7 (or 9)”?

And by the way

I’m guessing that the video was sourced from a freelance camera operator and that all three networks decided to use the same footage!

These houses are round the corner from my place, they closed off the Main Street of Paddington because these places are right opposite the shopping centre carpark so it caused a bit of congestion with diversions for quite some time etc.

TEN also had this is the second story on their national bulletin last night.

Anyway there was only a 7 News link truck on the scene first from what I could see for quite a while, as well as what appeared to be a freelance camera man.

I imagine it will be a difficult night for news teams trying to put together bulletins with no power in the entire state of SA. Will anyone be watching?

Stay safe SA members !!

Most reputable media outlets have back up generators (who knows about Ten)…that doesn’t help viewers though of course.

Perhaps a good night for the live streams?

Nice day to be stuck in a lift

It is possible to receive a DVB-T signal off a TV running off an solar panel because the transmitters most likely have backup power.

Ten News seems to have made it to air OK - time to get those reporters wet!!

ABC News SA will be streaming tonight’s 7pm bulletin on Facebook and iView:

FIVEaa might be on backup power, but the station is on air - as is Nova and the SCA stations. Mix 102.3/Cruise 1323 are still off air I believe

1323 Is still off air.

9 News broadcasting on location from the city.

Nine Adelaide just cut to ACA, there was no 6:30 update on 891.

Brenton Ragless handed over to Amelia Adams in Sydney after the first 15mins to handle the rest of the bulletin due to the power going out at the Nine studios.

Seven News doesn’t seem to be having the same issues - the bulletin has been broadcast ‘as normal’ from their studio

It’s only 6:30 in SA; there was no half-hour headlines read however.

No PM on 891. Ian Henschke hosted 4-6:30pm, with Deb Tribe taking over then on in.

I’m guessing that their generator wasn’t going to cope for the full hour, so bailed?

Just figured that out now :hushed:

ABC News South Australia about to be streamed: http://www.abc.net.au/news/livevideo/

Looks like a lot of the streaming is not going to be much good as mobile phone coverage goes out. Back to the old battery powered “transistor” radio.
