Nine’s Olympic Winter Games coverage for Friday included the Night Session with 933k, Night Session 2 with 879k and Late Session with 542k still watching. The preview had earlier achieved 564k and Late Extended came in with 241k for a complete domination of post 7.30pm by Nine. Further details to follow later.
The night had included a Preview at 7.30pm AEDT with the main coverage starting at 8pm AEDT and continuing to 3am ahead of the Opening Ceremony on Saturday morning. 9Gem carried early overage for Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth until 7.30pm local time.
The afternoon also saw an encore of the previous day’s coverage that managed 243k.
Up against the Olympics Better Homes And Gardens that was still in Summer mode on Seven did well to average 559k, up 20k on last week. The All Creatures Great And Small Season Final (Christmas Special 2024) on ABC also did well with 510k, also up 20k.
Over on 10, the 2026 AACTA Awards ran 2 ½ hours and averaged 189k. That compares to last year’s ceremony that had 264k after 197k in 2024 and 202k in 2023.
Later saw another airing of Pretty Woman on Seven to 378k while the Art Detectives inaugural season final had 385k.
At 6pm Seven News had another win with the margin 130k on Friday. That followed Tipping Point completing a clean sweep of its first week back with new episodes this year. At 7pm A Current Affair had 776k, ABC News 821k and Millionaire Hot Seat concluded its first week on 10 outside the top 30.
At breakfast, Sunrise had 438k while Today didn’t get any bump from its Olympic coverage
Huge night for Nine. And if I may, I’ll just restate the codings Nine gives and compare the night -2 to night -1. (Keep in mind MAFS was airing Thursday.)
Wow, Milano Cortina off to a great start for Nine. Looks like the wall-to-wall promos during the tennis paid off!
Some great daytime highlights (D -1) and post-midnight (D0) audience too.
Possibly the best so far since Pyeongchang 2018 (Seven) or Sochi 2014 (Ten), as I seem to recall Beijing 2022 (albeit still pandemic hangover) was pretty soft and underwhelmed?

Great numbers for the Winter Olympics across the whole night.
Looks like the codings for late night are as followed: Night (8-9pm), Night 2 (9-10.30pm), Late (10.30pm-12am) and Late Extension (12-2am). Going by Nine’s press release posted above by Tv.Cinic.
Pretty good result too for Seven’s Pretty Women movie. That’s often repeated.
Ouch for the AACTA Awards. Sadly, not a good result. Looks like the Logies is the awards of choice for viewers…
And I didn’t expect Hot Seat to drop out of the top 30 already in week one…
Did you not read tv.cinic’s post? Where it shows the times in Blue? Yes, ratings are aedt. And Oztam cuts off ratings at 2am. Not 3am.
Assuming that the 7-9pm slot is just a guide? As it really started at 8pm? The rest looks right.
We all know it is annoying that there are multiple codes for the Winter Olympics. But sadly, it is what it is. And sometimes confusing for all of us, at the best of times.
Lack of promotion from 10 (it should have had an on-screen watermark a month out of the ceremony, sharing time with Millionaire Hot Seat). Just relying on News Corp papers to promote the audience choice category voting is not enough.
