A massive 12-point win for Seven on Friday night sees it headed towards its first weekly win of the survey. The 37.8% share is the highest for Seven for any day this year and its best result since September 2022. ABC’s share was also up by one as Nine lost two from the previous week with 10 and SBS unchanged.

To start the night, Seven News had it biggest Friday audience of the survey. The preliminary AFL number of 481,000 was up 40k from the previous week with the Pre-match up 60k (the Post-Match will be adjusted down). Better Homes and Gardens also did well for Seven to top 400k, its best result since the season opener.

Nine’s lower share was die to the NRL slipping back down to the 300k mark after last week’s record high for the Battle of Brisbane.

For ABC, Gardening Australia was steady with 340,000 but Van Der Valk that followed posted a 50k increase week-on-week.

10’s coverage of the Australian Grand Prix didn’t make the top 20. As a lead in it gave 10 News a slight boost from the previous week to make the top 20.

Earlier in the day, Sunrise posted a huge 233,000 for its equal second-highest audience of the year.

AFL and NRL topped Foxtel’s top 20 table with the best entry for the motorsport at 96k. That compares to 122k last year (when FTA coverage of the event was on a multichannel 10Bold).

The AFL did very well on both Seven and Fox Footy.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Adelaide’s main channel share is in the 40% or higher tonight (with the ‘Showdown’), Melbourne’s probably 30% or more too (big St Kilda anniversary vs Essendon game at the MCG) and with no competition on other networks and whatever Seven’s other metrics do, looks like they’re in for a bang to finish this week.

The performance of the AFL on Fridays seems to be a lot stronger than their Thursday performance (whereas the NRL seems to be reversed)

Interesting to see the only show in the Top 10 for Ten is the news because so many people in here say that noone ever watches news on Ten?

Also the show that they love and adore, The 7pm Project, couldnt even rack up 189,000 to be in the top 20.

So who knows what audience the 6.30 Project had?

Probably close to 130,000 which is what the soccer scored on a digital channel and many said wasn’t commercially viable.

I think some people need to have a good hard look at themselves because their reasoning defies logic when you look at these numbers.

Not interesting at all actually since this has often been the case for the past five to ten years.

Well you are one of these people who chant in here that noone goes to Ten for the News but it beat both Nine and Seven afternoon news so again you’re wrong

Show me where I said that “noone goes to Ten for the News”. That’s rubbish. However, in comparison to Seven and Nine News at 6pm, the audience is much smaller. Having rolling news throughout the night is not the answer to their ratings problems.

Even though 8 of the programs in the Top 20 were News

Correct. There’s a time and a place for it.

Seems to be rating in multiple places

The 6pm portion of 10’s News didn’t rate. Neither did 10’s 5pm portion earlier in the week.

The lead-in for the Formula 1 may have helped with the News last night.

Nothing at 7.30, 8.30 or 9.30 rated for 10 either, but aye, lets just focus on The Project’s ratings, because apparently, it costs “soooo much money” to produce. Yet, so does the news and that didnt crack the top 20 either (6pm portion)

If Ten were to air a 9pm News bulletin next week (Wednesday), a lot of people would tune in because they would be salivating at the thought of watching live coverage of Trump’s arrest

  1. They aren’t in the same time slot in most markets, so you can’t really directly compare the 5CM figures.

  2. In the markets where Nine’s Afternoon News airs at 5, it beat Ten, so your point is wrong.

Because The Project would be a hell of a lot cheaper to produce than the approx. $40 million a year Ten/Paramount pay for the A-League rights.

And those people would be mighty disappointed, as the arrest is due to take place in the early hours of Wednesday morning our time.

I have said it before and I will say it again: Ten is not a news brand anymore. You keep saying that a 9pm bulletin will work because it is a point of difference: Ten already has a point of difference in its 5pm flagship bulletin and it isn’t competitive. Instead of spreading the already small budget thinner by gambling on the unknown, they need to try and make what they have now work. There is no point thinking about adding another bedroom if the kitchen is falling apart.

Nope, you’re wrong.

Very easy for Ten to create its own news personality and gain a following at 9pm. There is a clear gap in the market here for Ten to own.

Ten needs to attach itself to a sport and Wednesday is there for the taking.

And as I have said many times before, the current figures for the Project are no longer sustainable especially because of the low audience on Thursday and Friday night

I’m curious to know, since you are so in to the idea of a 9pm news bulletin, what kind of audience number do you believe such a bulletin would draw?

And what happens to shows like Have You Been Paying Attention, The Cheap Seats and Gogglebox, that starts anywhere between 8.30pm and 9pm on their respective nights? Do they not air when the News is on at 9pm?

I would love to see 10 move their reality shows to a 7pm start - it worked for Big Brother and MasterChef back in the day. I think The Project would be great as a late nightly panel news show at 9/9.30pm where there’s less saturation of news
currently from 6pm - 7.30pm, it’s news vs news on most channels.
