Seven has its first overnight win in 18 days ahead of Nine by 2 in network shares and 0.3 on the main channel. Third-placed ABC was up two while 10 had its best Friday share since November last year. SBS was also up one to double figures.

Seven won with another number one ranking for news at 6pm followed by the season premiere of Better Homes and Gardens that managed a modest 414,000. Later, three encores of Australian Idol followed.

For Nine the premiere of the new series For The Love of Pets averaged 262,000 with a premiere movie later on par for Friday and Saturday movies with 224,000. Earlier, A Current Affair finished the week as the number one 7pm show.

ABC News was number one at 7pm on Friday. Monty Don’s Adriatic Garden got a small increase from the previous week while Van Der Valk did better than previous week’s Friday dramas.

Meanwhile The Graham Norton Show benefited from less competition and was up 70,000 week-on-week. 10 News also made the top 20 with The Project missing out though top 5 in 16-39.

Sunrise was 35k ahead of Today at breakfast with Today winning the east coast thanks largely to Brisbane. Nine’s Afternoon News and Tipping Point were again notable entries in the top 20.

For the Love of Pets came within 1000 viewers of BH&G in Adelaide.

Good to see The Dry on Nine make the top 20.

From 8.30pm, repeats of Australian Idol (on Seven) and Taskmaster Australia (on 10) failed to make the top 20.

Today only won Brisbane, with Sunrise ahead in a Sydney and Melbourne.

“Winning the east coast” is often a metric quoted referring to the total audience across the three markets. Today had 164k and Sunrise 158k.

If the 7pm Project is less than 190,000 viewers, I hate to think what the 6.30 Project rated last night.

It doesnt really matter though because its has been like this for years.

You do have a point, but the sarcasm doesn’t really help to make it. It isn’t a great number, but there are some pretty logical reasons why.

  1. This is true of all days, but the 6:30 part is up against the second half-hour of news on Seven and Nine. Given these are almost always some of the highest rating shows of the night, it will always be hard to make headway into them.

  2. Graham Norton rates well, but there isn’t that show on a Friday to draw viewers in, which relates to the last point;

  3. The target audience for the show is the sort of people that would be out on a Friday night, whereas something like an ACA skews older and therefore the audience is more likely to be at home.

On a separate point, that is an average performance for the 5pm section of Hot Seat. I’ve mentioned it before, but they really should go back to the half-hour format, or try something new altogether.

10 News First Adelaide are going to be hoping for more competitive rating against Nine News Adelaide Afternoon when it goes back to behind local. Continual beatings by 9 and by quite a margin.

All good points and I understand your reasons why it is not successful.

My main question is how long can they continue to flog a dark horse?

Have you seen Studio 10s numbers?

No, I can only imagine lol

For the sake of discussion, say 10 were to axe The Project, what do you replace it with? That’s 6 hours of air time a week that needs to be filled in a very key part of the schedule launching straight into their primetime offering.

The reality is any show in that time slot will face the same issues I highlighted above with no guarantee of rating any better than The Project does now, and could end up costing 10 more if they get it wrong.

Its funny you say this as my post got deleted before when I suggested they should they replace it with The Brady Bunch.

But I seriously thing this could work if you had a host like a Julia Morris introducing it and a cash prize competition around the episode because there is always a place for nostalogia

You seriously believe this could work. No wonder it got deleted.

I can guarantee that anyone within 10’s target demo could not care less about the Brady Bunch. Anyone who is 54 this year, the top end of the 25-54 demo, was born in the year the Brady Bunch was launched, and were 5 when the show was cancelled. The only people who would have nostalgia for the show wouldn’t be watching 10 anyway and would have no other reason to do so.
