Seven won Friday with a seven-point margin over Nine with both networks increasing their shares from the previous week, Nine to a four-week high. ABC and SBS each lost one point while 10’s share was up one for its best Friday share in seven weeks though still only one ahead of SBS.

Seven’s AFL slipped by 40k from the previous week to a four-week low but it still ranked fifth for the night. Nine’s NRL game was on par with the previous week to make the top 10.

Better Homes and Gardens was up by 200k from last Friday to regain its number one ranking for prime time entertainment pulling 50k ahead of Gardening Australia that had outranked it the previous week. Ready Steady Cook made it into the top 30 for the first time in three weeks though with just 131k.

Silent Witness took a hit slipping to 14th as the top scripted show of the night, down 50k.

The close battle in the afternoon saw Tipping Point just ahead of the Chase with its second best Friday rating so far helping to secure another weekly win nationally. Following. news numbers were lower than usual with Nine posting its its lowest rated weekday bulletin for seven weeks.

Surprised that the AFL slipped from last week, despite airing on the main channel in Sydney.

ABC’s early evening schedule having been making regular appearances in the top 30 in recent weeks - with 5.30pm’s Antique Roadshow (rpt) and 6.30pm’s Hard Quiz (rpt). Where as in previous years, shows like The Drum and what ever else they aired in those times rarely appeared. So kudos for them.

It’s a lesson for 10 really isn’t it?

The Drum was so niche and really only appealed to a small audience group.

Replace it with something that more people will enjoy and the figures will grow.

Just goes to show it is possible.

Dump The Project and replace it with something everyone (well, more people than who wants The Project) wants to watch and see improvement like the ABC has been rewarded with this year.

How’s that a lesson to 10, dump an hour of live programming for repeats? Not really something to be commended.

We also never saw total figures for The Drum like we do now, so it was being reported in a different environment. Perhaps given the total tv figure it would’ve looked more respectable.

I wouldn’t say that The Project is particularly niche, but it doesn’t have broad audience appeal, persist as they might to keep it going in its current iteration.

It’s a tough timeslot also, many shows at that time have been on air for a long longer and appeal to the demo watching at that time. Maybe cost vs reward to experiment just isn’t worth it.

I’m all for bringing new ideas and don’t disagree that the program, or the timeslot needs work. Will it happen? Probably not.

Last Friday had 2 games which featured teams from 4 markets. So that’s why it was high. Last night just 1 match

Of course it’s something to be commended.

ABC saw an issue in that slot and actually had the balls to do something about it. And it paid off.

Lesson to 10 is that risks can work.

Most of us can agree that The Project’s numbers aren’t the greatest out there. But is it doing better than what The Drum was getting (The Drum did have a half an hour head start to The Project)? I don’t know.

What do you recommend 10 air at 6.30pm every night (Sunday to Friday)? Id rather have new content there, rather than repeats.

We all know that it will never compete against Seven and Nine’s News, and Nine’s A Current Affair (Seven’s Home and Away can be a hit and miss). But they do need to do something to boost the 6.30-7.30pm hour’s ratings.

ABC were looking to cut costs and it was an easy target.

I wouldn’t commend them for making less Aussie content and replacing it with repeats, you must have a low standard.

Now if they replaced it with something else locally made, first run, was genuinely innovative and competitive - that’s a different conversation.

If what’s replaced the show is rating higher (am yet to see any evidence of this) then it’s marginal and again it should be noted we’re seeing the figures being reported in a different environment.

Again with the little side jabs. “You must have a low standard”.

All I was saying was that the ABC have managed to improve their results in a really difficult slot regardless of whether they’re repeats or not they’ve managed to do what 10 refuse to try and do. I’m just saying sometimes risks work.

Who cares if they’re repeats? The aim of the game is to have as much of the pie as possible. It’s business. They’re a network who still needs to attract some reasonable ratings results and if that means putting in repeats up against the unbeatable, for one hour, then so be it. It worked.

Tbf, if any network takes more risks, it is in fact 10. I mean The project itself had a few shuffles to make it viable, HYBPA, Gogglebox, etc. They tried risks with Traitors and Gladiators but it didn’t work (i know there’s reasons), then they had hitters like hunted and Survivor.
I still dont think The Project is 10s biggest issue (just look at Fridays top rating evening show after project).
