Foxtel

Wouldn’t put it past our federal government offering Foxtel a bailout, and I reckon Rupert is more than willing to call their bluff.

Foxtel can never price like Netflix.

Netflix has 6 employees in Australia, produces about 20 hours of aussie programming a year and then has a global subscriber count of 150 million in 150 countries sell this content to across the world

Foxtel About 2000, produces 10s is thousands of aussie programming a year spends billions on sports rights and sells it to 4 million subscribers in 1 country

That said - consumers don’t see the difference

Foxtel really needs a plan for $9.90 like Netflix

Then up from there in simple $5 increments

Sports $20 a month

They do, it’s called Kayo.

People need to start being smart about what services they are paying for.

The market is there for people to save money already, but will long term sport customers get rid of Foxtel for Kayo as more people will be looking for savings over the coming months?

How come Sky in NZ isn’t failing ? Isn’t that the equivalent of Foxtel?

Also Stan getting HBO not happening now then.

Some won’t be happy…

From a Bloomberg report on a HBO presentation in Los Angeles in November:

There will be no binging new HBO programs on Binge.

this is from tvtonight :t will likely mean HBO Max content will be included in Foxtel’s upcoming streaming offering, rumoured to be called Binge, rather than launching as a stand-alone.

They are completely out of touch. They have no idea

Important renewal for Foxtel. Stan getting the HBO/HBO Max rights would have been a ‘gut punch’ for them - especially considering the upcoming launch of ‘Binge’

There are arguments for and against both the binging and weekly release models. The former gives the viewer complete flexibility while the latter allows a series to build hype/momentum episode by episode.

Better hope they don’t lose Showtime then? Surely CBS wouldn’t think that the content would do better on 10 All Access? If Stan loses Showtime too … that won’t be great…

The new deal between Foxtel and WarnerMedia expands on Foxtel’s existing relationship with HBO and Cartoon Network. It means new TV shows produced by WarnerMedia and its subsidiaries will air exclusively on Foxtel.
The new deal also ensures WarnerMedia won’t launch HBO Max in Australia for the duration of the contract.

So WBITP will make programs for Foxtel for the very first time, on top of its existing productions for 10 (The Bachelor/ette, Bachelor in Paradise) and SBS (Who Do You Think You Are?). WBITP will be hoping more productions means it can challenge the big three - Fremantle, ITV Studios and Endemol Shine (soon to be merged with Banijay) - for market share in this country.

Perhaps but it would definitely give the service the boost it needs. Additionally, it’s in their self-interest to improve a service owned by them than continue to let their shows/content be housed on a rival service.

FTA movie rights would be a separate matter.

I don’t think the press release states that. I can’t see anything that says the movies are exclusive to Foxtel, it just says an extension of the (current) rights. Unless I have misinterpreted it.
