Exactly, would be some sort of MATV setup with the channels re-broadcast within the building, likely using some sort of RF modulator.
If we go in to lock down, I think Iâll need it!
Foxtel also took out a full page ad in todayâs News Corp metro papers to promote the offer.
Foxtel makes life a little easier with more content, more screens
Foxtel today announced a series of initiatives to make life a little easier for Australians as they spend more time at home to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Foxtel Group Chief Executive Officer Patrick Delany said: âWe have heard from our customers that during these challenging times, one of the things that really makes a difference is being able to keep the whole family entertained, informed and connected as they settle in at home.
âWeâre all in this together and we want them to know that Foxtel is there for them. These initiatives provide customers with an even better entertainment experience in their homes with more content, access on more screens and more data, all at no extra charge.â
Effective from today until 31 May, Foxtel customers[1] will have access to:
- More content with access to Foxtelâs full range of Drama, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Documentaries, Reality and Kids[2] TV channels and on demand libraries[3].
- Customers will have access to Multiscreen4, giving expanded access to watch on up to two additional devices at the same time including casting the Foxtel GO[4] app to additional TVs.
- Foxtel Now customers will have Drama Extra, Docos, Pop, Lifestyle and Kids added to their Essentials, Pop or Lifestyle packs.
- Unlimited broadband data for all Foxtel Broadband and Foxtel nbn customers who are on monthly data allowances for streaming and home internet without limits.5
The initiatives are available to Foxtel customers including those that subscribe to Foxtel through Telstra and Optus.
Mr Delany added: âWith these changes we are making thousands of hours of additional live and on demand content available to our customers. I want to acknowledge the support we have received from all our content partners to make this happen including Discovery, BBC Studios, ViacomCBS, Turner, NBC Universal and National Geographic.
âThis is also a time when staying informed is more important than ever. All our customers will have access to Foxtelâs full range of news services including Sky News and the dedicated Sky News COVID-19 news channel along with international news from CNN, FOX News, BBC World News, Sky News UK, CNBC and Bloomberg Television.
âFor kids who are spending more time at home, the additional range of documentary content including BBC Earth and National Geographic will help them continue to learn more about the world around us.
âOur call centres are working hard to prioritise callers with an immediate need and we appreciate our customersâ patience and support as we navigate the current challenges ourselves.â
The additional content means customers will have more to watch as they settle in to enjoy the worldâs best entertainment across multiple genres.
This includes new series such as Mrs America starring Cate Blanchett and Rose Byrne, mystery thriller Devs and new seasons of Westworld, The Walking Dead, Outlander, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Selling Houses Australia, Cosmos: Possible Worlds and The Great British Bake Off.
Customers will also be able to catch up on entire seasons and box sets of recent hit series such as Game of Thrones , Succession , Tim Minchinâs Upright and His Dark Materials, along with comedy evergreens including Friends, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and Seinfeld .
Customers do not need to activate the changes. The additional tiers of content, multiscreen and unlimited broadband will be opened up by Foxtel this morning allowing customers to enjoy the premium content and features immediately until 31 May.
Foxtel remains focused on keeping customers connected and urges customers to visit the updated support pages for any non-urgent queries as we try to prioritise service for those in immediate need. Online services are available at foxtel.com.au/update.

Wish they chucked movies in also
Another article on how bad itâs getting at Kayo / Foxtel.
During hard times this is the one service that will be let go. Is this the end of Foxtel as we know it? Thoughts?
Probably wonât recover as a cable/satellite company. Theyâve added content to people but not the movie packages. I cancelled my sports pack yesterday as it was pointless subscribing.
Theyâve given me Kids, Docos and Lifestyle - so really nothing of interest to me. The movies would have been better. Iâm thinking of cancelling Foxtel Now after the current season of Outlander concludes.
They have given everyone everything besides Sports & MoviesâŚ
Just push the button Foxtel. You might actually keep some customers after this if you do.
Of course you think itâs all doom and gloom? Itâs not in dire straights as you suggest.
what do you think of outlander???
What makes you suggest that? I thought they were in deep debt and bleeding subscribers? Sounded quite dire to me l.
Itâs good.
Foxtel get rid of that hideous HD $10 surcharge if you want to help customers? FTA has now about 9 HD channels I can understand when they had none but this is price gauging in my opinion unless people start complaining it will never be taken off!
Foxtel is expensive because of its satellite service and playout overheads. They should start phasing these services out in metro areas and beginning to drastically improve their Foxtel Now services, such as allowing customers to playback live sports and an overall better interface. This would make things much more affordable for its customers.
Iâve noticed I canât view as much on-demand content on my iQ4 than my Now box. Paying $130 a month should allow me to watch basically everything on-demand, not having to record an OLD episode or pay an extra $5 to rent a movie - come on itâs 2020.
I also think paying an extra $25 a month + install fee for an extra box in their house is ridiculous too.
Agreed, they should look at phasing satellite out and going exclusively to IPTV.
Not to cross post with the NBN thread but if we had greater access to FTTP, Foxtel could have facilitated this years ago.
Now they are stuck relying almost exclusively on satellite because they have lost (or are in the process of? been a while since I checked) access to Telstra HFC as it is converted to NBN HFC
