Foxtel

Foxtel still has a some popup channels up there. They just don’t stay in the guide when they’re not used, which clearly isn’t much.

Didn’t know that. Do you know whether they’re actual channels or were they previously used to power the Sky News/Fox Sports red button streams?

I believe they are trying to make room for one more 4K channel in the near future

So a 4K entertainment channel and a 4K sports channel?

Any examples? I know they had Foxsports more, but it’s a fulltime channel now, they just haven’t changed the name

But I’m pretty sure Optus renewed the rights anyway, so unless Foxtel knows something we don’t who knows.

I know in the future they were looking at entertainment/docos and movies, plus sport. Whether that’s 2 or 3 channels I really don’t know!

In a perfect world it’d be great to see Foxtel launch entertainment, documentaries, movies and sport all on individual and seperate 4K channels but that’s probably wishful thinking.

Yeah, Optus renewed the rights. My point is that it seems like the contracts Foxtel had to carry the club channels/programming blocks ran for the same length as this current EPL rights cycle (mid-2016 until the end of May this year)

They’re still on 11762H (same transponder as Fox Sports More) & 12136H. They look to be renamed as Spare but one of them still has Pop in the name.

You appear to have predicted it correctly, if this news story is right:

Ughh typical they just put prices up. How ridiculous that a monopoly makes such a huge loss. Shows their whole business model is flawed.

Yep. They are in such a unique position and they can’t get it right on a model to reap profits. Pretty sad in 2019 to be honest - they still can’t get it right. Would have to ask why?

Seems like Foxtel are about to go through what Sky in the UK went through a few years ago where they had to cut back on shoulder programming and talent after overpaying for Premier League rights
