Diana Month on Foxtel

Throughout August Foxtel is commemorating Diana, the Princess of Wales with a range of new programming exploring her extraordinary life. It has been 20 years since the tragic accident when Princess Diana, her companion Dodi Fayed, and their driver, died in a car crash in the Place de l’Alma underpass in Paris, France on August 31, 1997. Since then the world has celebrated her generous and compassionate legacy, and mourned her untimely passing.

Diana: A Quiet Revolution will exclusively premiere on Foxtel’s Lifestyle YOU channel on Tuesday August 8 at 9.30pm. No-one in history has ever been as universally adored as Diana. In her short life she captured the world with her charm, beauty, and limitless compassion. Her honesty and empathy challenged the century-old tradition of stoic royal silence, and brought a queen and her people closer than ever before. She was a Princess, a humanitarian and a mother. Now, two decades on we look back at her incredible life, and how she changed the Royal family forever in this one hour television special.

National Geographic will broadcast an Australian premiere two hour special, Diana: In Her Own Words on Tuesday August 15 at 7.30pm. Princess Diana lived her life in front of the cameras. Diana: In Her Own Words revisits her emotional journey from childhood through her rocky marriage to Prince Charles and subsequent emergence as the popular ‘People’s Princess.’ From Peabody award-winning producer Tom Jennings, this touching tribute relies solely on archival footage and recordings to explore her profound impact on the world and on the future of Britain’s monarchy.

Three part special Diana: Tragedy or Treason? will have its Australian premiere on TLC at 7.30pm each night from Sunday August 27 to Tuesday August 28. Diana: Tragedy or Treason? is the compelling story of a woman who captivated millions with her beauty and her down-to-earth charm, proving she was more than just the wife of a Prince. Diana was both style and substance; a fashion icon, a humanitarian and a fiercely protective mother. She redefined what it meant to be Royal – so much so that many feared she would ultimately bring down the monarchy. Instead, through her legacy, she ended up saving it.

History will exclusively premiere Diana: 20 Years On Monday on August 28 at 8.30pm. This landmark one hour documentary reveals the life and work of the Princess of Wales in the 20th year since her tragic death.

History will also encore two specials: Diana: Her Last 10 Days In Pictures on Sunday August 27 at 3.30pm; and Princess Diana’s Death: Mystery Solved on Wednesday August 30 and Thursday August 31 at 7.30pm.

Created in 2010, Diana: Her Last 10 Days In Pictures is a documentary exploring how the world is still fascinated by Diana and the manner of her untimely death. The legacy she left in the photographs of that time show a woman in her prime – confident, attractive and poised on the brink of a new life, and this one hour special uncovers the truth behind those iconic shots.

First broadcast in 2016, Princess Diana’s Death: Mystery Solved is a two part documentary providing forensic evidence gathered by Colin McLaren indicating that both the French and English investigations into the death of Diana were flawed. McLaren interviews many of those involved in the investigation, as well as crucial witnesses, and concludes that a cover-up existed.

In addition to the Princess Diana specials, UKTV will also broadcast Prince Harry in Africa on Thursday August 10 at 7.30pm. This Australian premiere one hour special follows Prince Harry on his return to Lesotho, in Africa, to continue the work of the charity he set up in the country a decade previously. See Prince Harry set off on an unforgettable adventure, where cameras will bear witness to his travels through the beautiful and challenging scenery to remote locations with his deeply personal aim of discovering the stories that he wants to tell to the world.

Foxtel updates channel line up

Foxtel Arts and Foxtel Smooth to share broadcast signal

Lifestyle YOU to cease as key programming moves to Lifestyle and Arena

Foxtel has today announced that, from October, there will be scheduling changes to its linear channel line up with Foxtel Arts and Foxtel Smooth channels sharing a broadcast signal and key Lifestyle YOU programming making the move to Lifestyle and Arena.

Effective October 11, both Foxtel Arts and Smooth will share the same broadcast signal, while still occupying two channel numbers (133 and 806). The two channels will be day-parted, with Smooth programming throughout the day and overnight from Midnight to 6.00pm and Foxtel Arts content scheduled from 6.00pm to 12 Midnight, daily.

At the same time, Lifestyle YOU will cease broadcasting with key programming moving to The Lifestyle Channel, Arena and On Demand as Foxtel looks to streamline and improve its world-class service.

“We have taken this decision because it makes a lot of sense both in financial terms and audience optimisation,” said Brian Walsh, Foxtel’s Executive Director of Television. "Foxtel Smooth’s peak audiences are in daytime, whilst for Arts, audiences tune in during the evening, so this is really about combining the best of both worlds for our customers. Yes this is consolidation, however, as our television and video world continues to evolve, it is imperative we review every aspect of the business.

“Foxtel is in the business of curating and acquiring the best content across multi genres and creating strong super channels which serve a wide variety of tastes. The new Smooth / Arts combo and the streamlining of Lifestyle You are examples of that," he said.

The formats for each signal remain the same. Foxtel Smooth, which is operated under brand license from Smooth FM, will continue to broadcast a rich playlist of contemporary music based on the highly successful Smooth FM playlist.

Foxtel Arts will continue to showcase the best in performing arts from Australia and around the world.

Foxtel Smooth / Foxtel Arts will continue to be broadcast at two channel locations on the Foxtel platform, at both Channel 133 and Channel 806.

This change also means that, for the first time, Foxtel Arts will be available to all Foxtel customers, irrespective of their subscription package.

Arena and The Lifestyle Channel are available from the Entertainment pack on channel 105 and 106 as well as on +2 channels on 151 and 152.

If Foxtel Smooth occupies the midnight to 6pm timeslot, how will awards shows like Tony Awards and BAFTAs be broadcast? Will they move to Fox8?

All this fiddling but no announcement on HD for Comedy CHannel.

this is a somewhat disappointing move. i can’t imagine either of these channels cost a lot to actully run.

No HD for news channels

No more ironing shirts and catching up on work in the evening with Foxtel Smooth running in the background. Might have to curate some playlists on YouTube or Vevo, if that’s possible, to have running while I’m doing my chores.

Foxtel mag has a blurb on page 5 on TRT News Turkey being on 652, as does the channel lineup.

Nothing on the EPG. Still.

i read its been delayed no new date been announced

Or just listen to Smooth FM

Such a backwards steps it was back in the 90s when stations time-shared, surely Smooth could not be rating so bad. What is happening with Foxtel Arts HD wil it revert back to SD or will Smooth become HD

That was helpful. There are many reasons people watch music video clips. Of course there are any number of music radio stations I can listen to but I don’t get the enjoyment of the visual art, the concepts producers come up with to go with a song, the choreography, the nostalgia.

for me, smooth is my default station when i am studying. i know i’m not going to have something come on and jolt me out of my study mindset

Between the changes announced today & the Foxtel Now channel cull a few months ago, Foxtel are becoming experts at delivering less value whilst we pay the same amount of money for it…

Are people really interested in all this Diana stuff? Other than those who were too young at the time, I just don’t understand why anyone would want to spend hours of their viewing time on re-hashing pretty recent history.

I’ve been watching/listening to MTV Classic on Fetch. It’s nice to see the videos.

Fairfax had a good editorial this weekend asking why Foxtel is getting a $30 million handout to broadcast “unrepresented sports”, when Foxtel itself is niche and Seven didn’t receive government funding to broadcast the womens AFL. Foxtel didn’t pay tax in 2015 despite revenue of $1.9 billion, yet in 2014 almost 5,000 charities lost funding due to budget cuts. Fairfax hints that the funding was to get News onside for the government’s media law changes.

I have seen MTV Classic on one of the American streaming services. They played a few too much hip hop/American street music for my liking and that was even during an '80s themed bloc where I thought I’d find some tracks to my liking. I’m not sure if it differs to what is on offer on MTV Classic on Fetch. I have Fetch but haven’t bothered to subscribe to any of the channel packs yet.

I had the Max channel on for a while this afternoon. Unfortunately I find they tend to have niche music programming running, instead of back to back music videos, during the times I like to watch.

Not sure why the change.
But my Foxtel Play app on my TV has suddenly unlocked every available channel to me a few days ago, even though I’m only signed up for/paying for the one channel pack.

Just turned the TV on the other day and noticed all the locks on channels had disappeared, and they’re now completely watchable.
