Yeah with Disney+ having ESPN they should have all the espn nba games not just the matches being shown on Foxtel/fetch. Even with the NBA playoffs ESPN on Foxtel/Fetch tend to only show matches during the morning slot and not all the games that are actually being shown on ESPN .
This Sunday there are playoff games starting 3am, 5:30am, 8am & 10:30am AEST but ESPN Foxtel/Fetch is only showing the 8 & 10:30am games. Disney+ should have all them if they are going to include into Disney+
I hope the new ownership will have a good look at branding. Does the Foxtel name work for consumer products anymore? Should it switch entirely to Binge branding for example? It’s confusing with so many brands offering the same producers. Kayo works with sport, so they should ideally rebrand all Fox Sports to that banner, consumer TV to Binge? Or maybe Kayo for everything consumer?
Right now it’s so messy. Kayo Crime? Does that work?
DAZN will be sports-oriented in the future. They have the UEFA Champions League rights across the ditch and many countries but will have to wait for another 2 years to take the rights off Stan.
I’d imagine DAZN would be looking at offloading or spinning off the entertainment assets and keeping the sports. The subscription TV platform would be included in this, with Fox Sports channels being licenced back to the new operator. They’ve never shown any interest in being an entertainment company and I doubt Australia is the market where that begins. It’s always been a play for sports rights.
WBD have said they are looking for potential acquisitions in this market, so it’s a possibility they may want BINGE if DAZN decide they don’t want it, and it gets put up for sale.
Nine is also another option if BINGE gets put up for sale.
Foxtel probably works for bolted on, high paying Foxtel customers (who are used to that experience), obviously not seen as a name for growth (why the Binge name exists), so leave it alone for those customers.
Binge probably needs to change its target market, maybe advertise the live channels (including the news channels, maybe kill off Flash for more content) as more of a feature and maybe as a bit less premium service (bundle offers and a lower base price would also help).
Obviously there’s less content for it now, but Foxtel can still get a lot of cheap content that doesn’t have a natural home in Australia, for both of its entertainment services. I’d also say kill off the seperate Lifestyle service but I’m not sure there’s anything there that’s not on Binge.
Kayo would probably turn into DAZN in the next 2 years though.
When did they say that? I’m not doubting you but I’d be curious of the context. WBD is a massive producer, they don’t need to buy Binge for a bunch of local third party content licences they won’t even want to keep.
Surely they’re talking about acquiring producers?
