Foxtel

Can they change the name of both Foxtel AND DAZN? I hate that name. I think it’s pronounced “dazin” but its actually “da zone”.

Steal the Kayo brand and use it globally.

The contract to use Optus’ satellites runs until 2031. I reckon we’ll see Optus take over the pay-TV arm and run it until then. Hopefully by then the Internet might have arrived in the boondocks!

Agree. It would surprise me if not only Main Event doesn’t carry all of DAZN’s PPV boxing events but it doesn’t become the brand which is used to house/showcase DAZN’s many boxing rights.

I’m hoping DAZN’s app is added to Foxtel’s IQ boxes in the short term. Would make accessing NFL GamePass slightly less cumbersome.

Don’t get me started on how stupid it is that if you try to access it via the Prime app, you can’t use an existing subscription and have to buy a subscription through Prime. I just use the (rather clunky) DAZN website on a Mac Mini hooked up to an HDMI port on the TV for GamePass currently.

The foxtel part of the business is still very profitable. Cable / satellite tv is in the decline but profit margins are still much higher than streaming.

It’s still worth something for a while. I’d be surprised if the liner cha bels are just “turned off” in the next few years

There is merit running the service as long as it still makes big bucks.

They will be looking to the us and the Comcast and WBD spin off of linear networks to see how to manage it

So many possibilities

i would expect the first signs would be the following:

1 - DAZN’s streaming channels will come to Kayo

2 - Fox sports will get a DAZN watermark under the current one as i think both names will run in parallel for 6 to 12 months before being renamed to DAZN Sport

Although I agree with this, is the Fox Sports brand part of the sale?

all ive found is this line:

All Fox Sports operations will move across to DAZN. Sky News Australia will continue to be owned by News Corp and operated by Foxtel.

I seriously don’t know why News Corp want to hold on to Sky news now. Seriously what’s the point.

That sweet, sweet YouTube ad revenue.

influence. its the same reason they keep the Australian newspaper. they both lose money but it influences the right people

Thats a good point but it soon it will be news channel with no platform. What will they do then?

they have sky news regional. there is probably also a clause in the sale that sky needs to stay on for a period of time. worst case scenario they pay for multichannel access

From memory - it’s used under licence from big Fox, so whether that transfers will be interesting.

The slow death of traditional Pay TV has begun. Soon, it’ll be goodbye to normal Pay TV and hello to Subscription TV (streaming).

It began 20 years ago

I suggest the slow death started many years ago. Now for the fast death.
