Foxtel

No it must be a bug.

Upon system reset and if 156 was set to IP, 256 is active and 156 is not, but both are in the list of FTA channels in the settings.

If you change 156 to be FTA, then 256 disappears and 156 appears in the right spot.

If you change 156 to IP, then 156 moves to where 256 was but is still numbered 156.

A power reboot fixes this.

I am surprised that Foxtel hasn’t done a deal with VAST.

You bang your postcode in to get the local channels, so why not just geo-block metro and urban rural areas and away you go.

They both use the same satellite, (I have my vast box plugged into a spare foxtel antenna port to ensure it gets the security hits) so maybe its an encryption thing…

They can’t - VAST is technically only available if you have no other means of getting FTA coverage terrestrially.

Each individual location requires approval (and possibly site survey if in a marginal reception area)

Would they need approval if they were within the Remote Central & Eastern Australia zone?

There was a time when Foxtel and Austar were separate companies and both used the same channels via satellite, and I read somewhere that the encryption system was able to handle the case of two different service providers, so it has been done before.

I know there is not much point in this now but, What is stopping them from doing it? Is Vast a government owned company?

I believe they need to apply, but would receive approval reasonably expeditiously (it may even be automated)

The current laws establish that a conditional access scheme exists to control access - that would have to be altered, or unwound.

VAST is Government funded, but it is administered by the commercial FTA networks (via RBA Holdings).

Foxtel are offering free upgrades from older boxes iQHD, iQ2 and iQ3 to iQ5. Got my new box today. Set up was pretty easy. For some reason my time is set to AEDT even though I’m in SA. Also many of the apps of 9Now, 7Plus, Stan etc seem to be missing from the app menu.

Missing Apps will appear the next day happen to me as well.

Do Foxtel customers who have a Foxtel STB but receive the channels over the net rather than via satellite count as streaming subscribers or broadcast subscribers?

News Corp is in “active discussions” over the future of Foxtel as the media group looks at ways to free the full value of all its assets.

CEO Robert Thomson has long been pointing to the value of the company being underestimated by the market, despite a 38% rise in News Corp’s share price over the past year.

“We continue to examine changes to maximise our overall value for shareholders,” he told analysts during a briefing.

“It is true to say we are in active discussions over the future of Foxtel, and we believe all who have studied the worth of our individual assets and our current share price can easily see that that price does not reflect the collective value of our businesses.”

It’s been obvious for a while that they’ve lost interest in Foxtel.

Combination of terrible and terrible. Makes sense.

are the sports rights available really worth picking up a business that’s on life support? Or maybe they’ll carve out sport and on-sell the rest.
