Foxtel

Is it really that surprising anymore?

Martin Medcraf , Foxtel Media sport sales and partnerships director, explained: “The AFL and NRL have both had thrilling seasons this year and it’s clear that the fans have loved the excitement from the very start. In early April, the second annual AFL Gather Round broke AFL streaming records across Kayo Sports, with a record of 252 million minutes viewed. This made the 2024 Gather Round the #1 streamed AFL round of all time.

A bit of a shock. Pretty high up at Foxtel. Instrumental (almost single handedly initially) in setting-up Fox Cricket. A well regarded veteran, spent a long time at Seven Sport at South Melbourne / Docklands back in a memorable era, produced countless Olympics, Winter Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Australian Opens, Melbourne Cups, among others…

With him and McNamara involved, are we at all surprised that Fox Cricket is the crass, blokey, barely watchable content that it is?

So knowing what the culture is like at seven, you can see where he learnt his craft.

Ahhh the days of Murdoch press saying about Nine Cricket being blokes and insider jokes.

Cricket coverage in this country on Fox has always been worse.

The updated Foxtel Now pricing and package guide confirms that Main Event UFC will be a new channel.

Also saw a promo for the channel during Fox’s NRL coverage tonight. It’s a weird channel launch considering Foxtel/Kayo only have rights to UFC PPVs - ESPN have the rights to everything else.

Yeah, still can’t find anything else on the channel except the ads and a Foxtel rep answering questions on the Foxtel Fans Facebook group, which is just weird.

Hi there, the new UFC Channel launches on September 9. Customers can relive classic bouts, catch up on past UFC events, view live weigh-ins and behind the scenes content. Please note: This channel will not include UFC PPVs.

The ESPN events and coverage will remain the same.

Also mentioned the channel will be on 523, which fits in with the Main Event branding.

A few things:

  1. This is for Foxtel Now. Is there a similar one for Foxtel?

  2. Travel channel is not included, nor are the Vevo channels.

  3. According to the pricing guide, you can’t only get the kids channels unless you also get the sports & movies channels. Will sports, movies and kids channels be available as separate pacages?

The new foxtel now plans are ridiculous. Currently on a plan worth $55 and I am on a deal for $39 discounted offer.
When that new plan comes in it jumps to $84 for the same channels.

That will be my cue to disconnect.

You should have got an email advising that when the new plans kick in, you won’t be moved to the new pricing but rather be subjected to special pricing that will be available provided you don’t change your package.

I’m on one of the old legacy packages and I’ve been advised I’ll have access to the ultimate package for a frankly ridiculous price.

I’m hoping that is the case. The email wasn’t written clearly enough.

Most recent one I can find is this from February, when they merged everything except sport and movies into the base pack.

Travel is technically a “pop-up channel” going away in November. The Vevo channels aren’t in the Foxtel Go app despite being streaming only on the iQ3-5, so wouldn’t be available for Foxtel Now customers.

I’d say Foxtel would say Kayo is the sports streaming package, probably similar with Binge and movies, kids channels are also on Binge.

I don’t think Foxtel have had much focus on Foxtel Now since the launch of Kayo and Binge and have just let it run to not mess with the inertia from current customers. Apps only getting updated once a year when an OS update breaks them is an example of this.

Could probably say similar about Foxtel itself but they’ve put a bit more effort into trying to keep customers tied to their Foxtel box.

2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season kicks goals across Foxtel Group

With the Toyota AFL Finals Series here, Foxtel Group has announced that the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season is the most watched of all time across its platforms – Foxtel, Foxtel Now, Foxtel Go and Kayo Sports. It is the third consecutive year of viewership growth.

The audience growth has been led by huge jumps in streaming audiences, particularly on Kayo Sports which saw 6.1 billion minutes streamed this season, up 39 per cent year-on-year. More than half of total Foxtel Group audiences watched the season on Kayo Sports.

General Manager of Fox Footy Michael Neill said: “Anchoring our coverage is our philosophy and commitment to unrivalled access, world-class vision and expert commentary and analysis that keeps bringing audiences back for more. It’s been an exceptional year for the AFL on Fox Footy and we have enjoyed bringing every minute of the action to audiences on Kayo Sports and Foxtel. Bring on the Finals.”

Fremantle v Port Adelaide and Carlton v St Kilda in round 24 were the most watched regular season games in 2024 and of all time across Foxtel Group as audiences flocked to our platforms to see which teams would make the final eight in 2024. Round 24 was also the most streamed round of the season on Kayo Sports while Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon were the most watched teams across Foxtel Group platforms.

Collectively, the 2024 season recorded nine of the top 10 most-watched regular season rounds of all time across the Foxtel Group.

Every game of the AFL Finals (excluding the Grand Final) will be broadcast live with no ads during live play on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

Executive Director, Commercial Sport Rebecca McCloy said: “We have enjoyed showcasing every side of the game with audiences in a way that grows fandom in the sport, working closely with the AFL on game-changing initiatives and innovation. Congratulations to the AFL on an exceptional season.”

For the 2025 premiership season, Foxtel and Kayo Sports will continue to be the only place to watch every single game broadcast live and in 4K with no ad breaks during play. The Fox Footy coverage will also get bigger and better with dedicated commentary teams and innovative graphics to bring fans closer than ever to the action.

In 2025, Foxtel and Kayo Sports will also broadcast a ‘Super Saturday’ of games exclusively live across the nation in the first eight rounds of the season.

Michael continued: “With the continued goal to bring fans closer than ever to the game they love, there is so much more AFL to come in the coming months including the NAB AFLW season and the AFL Draft. In 2025, we cannot wait to take our coverage to new heights. Watch this space.”

Only thing keeping me on Foxtel is the Sky Racing Channels and 4K footy. Have moved to Stan Sport, Kayo, NFL Game Pass, NBA League Pass and NHL TV for my US sports fix
