Foxtel

Isn’t bluey something like the most streamed show on Australian television ever??

My point is that FTA linear children’s TV has been out paced by streaming, due to its OnDemand nature. We have all seen that (I was one of them) parent at Coles who’s just given the child the phone to stream somthing…to keep them quite for two seconds whilst I did the shopping…

I am not sure that my daughter will every know that feeling of ‘event television’ where the family sits down at X time to watch X programming…unlike her grandparents who still sit-down most nights at 7 to watch ‘The Channel 2 News’…

Certainly be interesting to see those numbers…

And also how many ‘major’ streaming apps are available in the country’s where pay tv is being less affected.

I think Australia has so many apps, and Foxtels move (in part) to Hubbl is an acknowledgement of the fact one provider can’t compete with homes having 4 or 5 paid apps…but as a one stop shop aggregator you can…

Things have changed for our kids too, I will still prefer having all the channels because I get overwhelmed by choice but scrolling through all the channels half the battle has been done and then I can see what I actually want to pick from a smaller list. The kids have grown up with the streaming services and can just go to get what they want quickly and easily. I was setting up sections for my kids to easily find the TV channels in my TV playlists (e.g. they know 22 for ABC Kids so I had them all around that area) but they barely use those now so I get where you’re coming from and agree.

Yeah, we still have a lot of shows that we wait for and get excited to watch each night - e.g. The Block when it’s on because it’s a family thing we can watch but we also all know that if we miss the start we can get it on streaming or many other sources whereas before we had to either miss it or tape it… and wait until it was over to be able to rewind to watch it. The kids do still get excited about some shows themselves but the only real one is… wait for it… Bluey - they will camp out waiting for the 8am Sunday showing to be the first for that but apart from that, things have changed and the kids and streaming have led the charge.

The Young and the Restless will be discontinued on FOX One from June 30.

From Monday, July 1 The Young and the Restless is fast-tracked from the U.S. on 10Play.

We already knew that, didn’t we?

Yeah we did. I was confused by that article’s purpose too.

Maybe just a reminder?

I guess it will still come as news to some people who read TVTonight, or as you say serve as a bit of a reminder.

Nonetheless, it’s been a shockingly bad deal for senior viewers.

It does confirm this:

Both soaps are also “coming soon” to 10 but no dates are yet confirmed.

Still, not only have those like my Nan been without Days for 2 weeks now, she will now be over a month behind and will miss out discussing the show with my mum over coffee cause mum watches on 10Play and will be miles ahead now.

I know it’s not the end of the world but these soap routines are massive for seniors.

Do you think the problem might be that 9Gem is showing the older episodes in the same timeslot that 10 wants to screen them in?

Hmm interesting point. I still think they need to air alongside Neighbours and Bold as a soap block though.

2pm Days of Our Lives
3pm The Young and the Restless
4pm Neighbours
4:30pm The Bold and The Beautiful.

They currently run at 12.30pm and 1.30pm on 9Gem so they might need to ask 9 Gem to make a change until their contracts end.

They air at 12pm and 12:55pm on 9Gem.

As long as 10 can promote and reinforce that their episodes are newer then I think 9Gem won’t be an issue.

But 10 would want to have maximum viewers watching so wouldn’t want to annoy any of them.

Some continuity would have been good for the relatively small amount of people still watching, but even those watching on Foxtel would’ve had to have learnt their way around that system to be able to watch on there, 10 play would not be much different.

Heck, NBC moved Days entirely to Peacock in the US a few years ago and you would assume a lot of their viewership base would be older audiences home throughout the day?

Change is always hard, but as long as the episodes are available then it’s nothing major.

TV measurement expert, Doug Peiffer, joins Foxtel Media as Senior Adviser

Foxtel Media today announced that audience measurement expert and former OzTam CEO Doug Peiffer, is joining the company as a Senior Adviser, bringing over 35 years of experience to the team.

As part of the Foxtel Group, one of Australia’s leading media companies with 4.6 million subscribers, Foxtel Media continues to innovate to ensure it delivers accurate and transparent measurement for its advertising partners. Peiffer’s new role will see him support Foxtel Media in unlocking the power of comprehensive ratings data from Foxtel Group’s over 1 million Foxtel set top boxes in partnership with Kantar Media. Announced at last year’s Upfront event, the project has already processed data from 2022, 2023 and 2024 and is now building out validated demographic profiles to match viewing data.

Reporting directly to Foxtel Media CEO Mark Frain, Peiffer will also bring his expertise to the development of new reach and effectiveness measures across linear and streaming channels. Additionally, he will add his insight to projects and initiatives being run in partnership with Video Futures Collective partners.

Mark Frain, CEO Foxtel Media said that Peiffer’s knowledge would be key in transforming how media would be measured by advertisers.

“In an increasingly competitive landscape, audience measurement has become all the more critical for everyone along the video supply chain, from media companies to agencies and advertisers. The evolution of content delivery has also made measurement highly complex and technical. What’s been clear to me from speaking to industry folks from the UK, the US and locally is there are only a handful of people around the world able to really navigate this field,” he said.

“Doug is one of the few experts globally with the background and deep technical knowledge to bring Australian measurement into the new age of media, and we are lucky to have him join the team,” he added.

Starting his career as a people meter installer for Nielsen in the US, Peiffer was General Manager of Strategy, Integration and Research at Australia’s Network Ten for nine years before being appointed CEO of Australia’s official television ratings currency OzTAM. During his 12-year tenure at OzTAM, Peiffer created numerous new tools and processes that allowed broadcasters to maximise their audiences, and advertisers to reach them.

Doug Peiffer, Senior Adviser at Foxtel Media said he is looking forward to the opportunity to explore new frontiers of measurement in the Australian market.

“The Foxtel Group’s suite of powerful media assets makes them uniquely qualified to pull apart the intricacies of audience measurement and create something truly special. Given the Group’s strong history with broadcast, streaming and rich data tapestry, they are well placed to leverage this information. Combined with a demonstrated willingness to work collaboratively with the industry, they are ideally positioned to deliver unparalleled insights to market that will enhance trading and boost results for the entire industry. I’m excited to be part of this pivotal moment in Australian media.”

Updates about the release of Kantar Media analysed data will be provided in the coming months.

I got the normal post cancellation phone call from the retentions team trying to keep me yesterday.

I basically said to them that with the number of channels that have left (and are leaving in the next few weeks) there is pretty much nothing they can do to keep me as the value is not there anymore

Haha they have started sending me Hubble deals to my email account even though I renewed my subscriptions :joy: . The sport alone and the on demand content from Binge is worth it enough for me to keep it.

I do wonder if BBC News is leaving flash as well, was this already asked ?

i switched to binge, kayo and flash. all 3, along with fetch will still be cheaper than what i was paying foxtel.

its going. its one reason i switched to fetch tv
