Foxtel

It only seems to affect metro regions, changing the location to something else fixes it

So I’m assuming this is only on the Iq5? Or is this function also available on the Iq4 and below?

It’s the website EPG.

This has snuck the radar but Foxtel quietly closed one of their movie channels last week. Quoting from the customer updates section on the Foxtel home page:

On 1 November 2023, the Movies Kids channel (ch.404 HD & ch. 474 SD) will close. Movies Kids content will move to the Movies Family Channel on ch. 403 HD & ch. 473 SD. This change will simplify our channel line-up and make it easier to find the movies your family loves, in one place. To continue watching your favourite kids movies, simply head to the Movies Family channel or watch On Demand

Reducing the number of channels will ALWAYS do that… What a load of crock…

This also appeared on the customer updates section on the Foxtel home page.

From 1 November 2023, we are making changes to the way the Foxtel service is supported in certain areas of Australia. As a result, customers with a Satellite Foxtel TV service in these areas will move to an ‘owner install’ service and will no longer be serviceable by a Foxtel Professional Technician. Customers with an internet-delivered Foxtel TV service in these areas will no longer be able to request a Foxtel Professional Technician.

Wow, I’m sure a lot of older people will feel left out in the cold.

It can still be done by a local antenna installer, who were probably the people contracted by Foxtel to do it anyway.

If you can find someone, which can be more difficult in the smaller localities.

Won’t you have to pay for this? Was it free before?

Unless you had free install there was a call-out fee. I’m not sure what the price difference is.

I can confirm that you do at least get the FTA channels if you are logged in - I guess then it knows what type of box you have, for a start, as well as locking in your region. I guess I wonder if it’s removing them because they’re likely not on the cable network anymore - but that also doesn’t explain why regional areas are showing (some of) the FTA channels as if they were connected to a MyStar box or similar. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I transitioned from cable to sat in 2019. Satellite is more reliable than cable for me

That’s interesting… I would have thought cable might be more reliable since satellite signals are susceptible to storms… unless you have a bigger dish.

It is but storms large enough to impact reception are reasonably infrequent, poor maintenance on the cable network (particularly towards the end) has been a running issue in some areas

Ok random question but some one on Fb is saying that Foxtel has a ad running at the moment promoting some random Chinese milk? Has anyone seen it? Or know what the brand is?

They mentioned Discovery Channel - sounds like they might’ve repeated a February 2022 paid-for doco involving Junlebao Dairy - who make a big dance on their web site about President Xi visiting in 2017 and giving them “instructions” to rebuild their milk powder industry.

Yes it’s pretty much a 15-minute advert described as a “collaboration” by Discovery, probably intended for the wider SE Asian region. It would hit pretty interestingly here given how much of the alternative milk powder that gets exchanged back to the PRoC comes from us and New Zealand.
