Foxtel are giving STB subscribers a “free” subscription to Flash as a bonus.
I think this is a cynical ploy to boost the Flash subscriber numbers on paper.
I’m not sure if its even worth downloading the app - what channels/content are on Flash that you can’t already access via Foxtel Go?

Has Foxtel moved out of their Moonee Ponds office or in the process of moving out?

I drove down Dean St today and there was wall a being constructed around the premises, which looks like it’s being boarded up.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve sold it. Expect more apartments!

Hard to imagine they were in their Moonee Ponds office for 18 years.

Foxtel has apparently leased two floors in Melbourne’s CBD.

Can anyone else who has the Satellite IQ5 verify what Ethernet port speed they are getting? Mine is only negotiating at 100Mbps Max - will not link at 1Gbps at all. Shame that the Ethernet port isn’t 1Gbps on a new STB :frowning:

I can’t imagine you’d need anything more than that anyway? Perhaps FOXTEL have limited the speed?

BBC News, NHK World, Cbeebies and Dreamworks all seem to be broadcasting in HD on the IQ5. Much clearer picture than SD channels and much clearer than what I remember them as on the IQ2. Or at least the broadcast is using a much higher bitrate than channels like CNN.

None of the channels show up in the HD section of the TV guide, but the EPG shows the programmes as being in HD (at least for Dreamworks).

Edit: I’d appreciate it if someone can do some bitrate tests to confirm. The following channels are definitely higher quality than they used to be but I’m not prepared to say they’re HD like BBC or Dreamworks:

Bloomberg, PBS Kids, E!, TLC (the content is clearly SD but the bug is much clearer), Lifestyle Food and Home (again, content is SD but bugs and graphics are much clearer), every +2 channel that has a HD primary.

Other channels like SKY Racing, Sky News Extra, Daystar, SBN and Fox Classics are clearly still SD. Graphics, ads and bugs aren’t as sharp as the above channels.

Judging by the bit rate on my router from my IQ5, I think you maybe right

Still all SD on IQ4

I’m guessing this is just for IP broadcast. Makes sense since the overhead costs for increasing the broadcast quality is going to be so much lower for IPTV than for cable or satellite. BBC News looks exactly the same on the IQ5 via Internet as it did on Fetch TV. Picture was awful on cable.

So I’ve asked Foxtel and they’ve basically just said that if the file or feed they receive is in HD, they will broadcast it in HD on IPTV.

I guess this is the beginning of the end of differentiating between HD and SD channels. The resolution you get will be determined by your internet speed, not by the broadcaster.

Is this just another popup channel?

I’m heading over to London in September, and I’ll be staying not too far from the Westfield at shepherd’s bush. i’m going to find time to go to the Sky store there and have a play with the Sky Glass, especially if there is no announcement from foxtel about a local release prior to this
