Unless they got it wrong and meant MotoGP?

Could be but I doubt anyone would pay $40m a year for MotoGP

I can’t believe anyone would pay $40m a year for F1. Races in Europe start at 11pm EST, how is it worth that much?

Maybe it’s $40m for the length of the contract?

The article says 40m/year.

possibly because of a few things

1 - F1 fans are pretty loyal and will follow the races - you have to be to watch a race at 11pm! they are an advertisers dream if your selling to that demo - they watch live (mostly) and will watch for hours.

2 - it might not be worth 40M on the open market, but it;s worth 40M to fox to keep a marquee sport and stop it going elsewhere and taking the subs with them- i know if fox lost F1 it would be a major decision for me as to if i keep it after losing super rugby

Think it’s got something to do with 4K (the amount they paid)

That may be it, but shouldn’t that be the standard nowadays?

when will Foxtel arts close

Foxtel Arts

they also get alot of content in 4K - it might be 21 races in a year, but as part of that they get the following content:

1 - the F1 show - a magazine style show running for an hour

2 - all 3 practice sessions at 75 mins each, with an hour on track

3 - Pit Lane Qualifying - 1 hour pre qualy show

4 - Qualifying - 2 hours

5 - pre race - 90 mins pre race coverage

6 - the race - 2 hours

7 - post race - 1 hour.

thats 12:15 coverage every race - for a 21 races that is 255 hours. thats a decent amount of content

Foxtel Group renews commitment to reconciliation with new Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

The Foxtel Group today released its 2021-2023 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan based on a vision to showcase the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and help shape a national culture that values respect, equality and equity for First Nations peoples.

The Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) sets out a series of practical actions that support Reconciliation Australia’s three pillars of Relationships, Respect and Opportunities.

Key commitments in the Foxtel Group’s RAP include:

  • Increasing and showcasing First Nations talent and improving the consistency of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programming across all platforms.
  • Developing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander content strategy, including the incorporation of cultural protocols into Foxtel original content across entertainment and sports.
  • Providing cultural learning and immersion opportunities for employees and talent.
  • Improving employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through a renewed focus on recruitment, retention, and professional development.

Patrick Delany, Foxtel Group CEO, said: “Our vision for reconciliation is based on a core belief in the importance of diverse voices to our business, our subscribers and employees.

“Our purpose is to share stories that entertain, inspire and inform Australians through movies, drama, lifestyle, news and sport. It gives us a unique opportunity and responsibility to connect our four million Australian subscribers to First Nations stories and the incredible talent of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander actors, athletes and presenters.

“This RAP sees the Foxtel Group renew its commitment to reconciliation after a period of significant change in our business. The initiatives set out in the plan outline how we will use our influence to amplify First Nations voices across our platforms through our storytelling, the passion of our people and the growing scale of our business.

Karen Mundine, Reconciliation Australia CEO, said: “This Innovate RAP is an opportunity for Foxtel to strengthen relationships, gain crucial experience, and nurture connections that will become the lifeblood of its future RAP commitments. By enabling and empowering staff to contribute to this process, Foxtel will ensure shared and cooperative success in the longterm.”

There is an iQ5 event on now - we should have some more detail shortly

IQ4 is only delivered by satellite but has a 1TB HDD as with the upcoming IQ5. IQ4 will also be internet enabled in the future with the next update.

The new Foxtel iQ5 device will be available to select Foxtel subscribers from early September 2021. The new set top box will become more widely available later this year.

Excuse my ignorance, but why would I have this over, say my current Foxtel GO setup that runs directly via my TV?

in your case, you wouldn’t.

let me give you an example where you would

1 - you live in an area where due to trees or building blocking the sat you can’t get foxtel and there is no cable, or you have cable as we know its being removed.

2 - you live in a rental where you are not allowed to install a dish, or your in a flat where a dish is not installed and the body corporate has refused to pay foxtel to be wired up

3 - youve just moved in to a new premises and want Foxtel by satellite - there is a wait time. by using the iq5 with the net you can use that until the dish is installed

from foxtels standpoint it is a case of less to support (i can see them phasing out at a minimum the IQ 1 and 2 soonsih and the 3 and 4 to follow eventully) resulting in lower overheads
