Well that might explain what Michael West was talking about. Would be Interesting To find out why they didn’t proceed and what it means long term for this business.

The Undoing

#1 drama of 2020 on FOXTEL eclipsing 2017’s HBO hit Big Little Lies

Australian audience numbers snowballing week on week

Global smash hit thriller The Undoing , starring Academy-Award® winner Nicole Kidman and BAFTA winner Hugh Grant , has rivetted Australian audiences throughout its suspenseful six episodes, achieving record-breaking viewing figures on BINGE and FOXTEL.

The addictive six-part series has attracted widespread acclaim from both critics and viewers, with The Sunday Telegraph describing it as “a perfect puzzle” and The Sydney Morning Herald calling it a series “where screenwriter David E. Kelley’s brilliance comes to the fore.”

The Undoing is now the most watched show on BINGE , drawing the largest daily audience for any series since the streaming service launched in May, with audience figures snowballing week on week.

On FOXTEL, The Undoing has already surpassed audience figures for the worldwide hit series Big Little Lies in 2017, achieving +34% above the record-breaking season one. The series has also surpassed audience numbers for other hugely popular HBO titles on FOXTEL including The Outsider , True Detective , Watchmen and Westworld.

The Undoing currently ranks as the number one drama to date on FOXTEL for 2020, with a weekly cumulative audience to date of 497,000 viewers across Linear and On Demand platforms.

The gripping six-part series attracted unprecedented audience engagement, with audience numbers exploding week-by-week over the course of the six episodes – culminating in a highly-anticipated finale watched by a captive audience around the globe. The Undoing is one of just a handful of premium dramas to increase its audience each premiere day.

The psychological drama, written and produced by David E. Kelley and directed by Susanne Bier, follows Grace Fraser (Kidman), a successful New York City therapist, and her husband Jonathan (Grant). Overnight, a chasm opens in their lives: a violent death, a missing spouse and a suspicious affair.

The series has also attracted outstanding audience numbers worldwide, with the finale drawing three million viewers in the US across all HBO platforms. The Undoing is also the first HBO series in the network’s history to grow week-to-week over the course of six episodes.

On Sky Atlantic in the UK, The Undoing launched with an audience of almost three million, surpassing the launch of Game of Thrones in 2011. The series is on track to becoming the biggest US series to ever launch on Sky Atlantic.

All six episodes of The Undoing are available to stream on BINGE and watch on demand on FOXTEL.

They have too much pride to sell it off just yet, especially when we have a federal government that will happily bail Foxtel out should they run into financial trouble.

I’m sure there’s a lot more to the story though, especially considering News would have kept a sizable share (and likely still retained enough influence to keep services like Sky going).

What’s up with the overuse of “Christmas Stunt”? Is it placeholder text or something?

There’s so much Christmas Stunt. :stuck_out_tongue:

Currently on the phone to Foxtel trying to disconnect for over 25 mins. She’s asking me 100 questions about my viewing habits but still not offering anything that would make me want to stay with them.

They are beyond horrible this mob.

That’s par for the course for those types. They’d have a whole department dedicated to keeping you on their books.

there trying to get you to stay with them. they did that to me I just threatened them to take them to the ombudsman for not allowing me to cancel

… and she just hung up on me whilst on hold.

I get that, and even told her I know what she’s doing. But even then the offers were ridiculous. Like give me 3 months free and I’ll stay. And then cancel in 3 months

ring back and tell them to either allow you to cancel your service or you will call the obudsman

She rung back. It’s done now.

Honestly. They are the worst. I get the whole retention piece but wow. Just wow.

I can remember when Iwas going to move into a new house from my old house and I had to cancel my Foxtel and when I told them it was owned by a uni and a real estate agent was handling it on their behalf, the person I spoke to wanted the uni numbers to they could get me reconnected again . and when I said no, they were like why not?? and I said I didn’t want it and didn’t want to get into the uni or real estates agents back books, they were like oh come on I’m sure you wont be. I said no . and they eventually gave it and tried to get me to go on Foxtel go with a discount but never did

Are you moving to Fetch TV instead?

and Foxtel wonder why there subscriber numbers are so low compared to netflix etc

Yep! I’ve had a Fetch box for some years. Decided to get it out again. And I can get the shows I utilised Foxtel for, for $6 a month instead of $49.

We just weren’t using it enough and tend to watch Netflix and Stan more these days.

Given it’s almost six months since the music channel changes be curious to see everybody’s thoughts.

My thoughts

-MTV Classics has improved since first launched; both with some Aussie content and actually putting the videos in the right aspect (instead of zooming in)

-The offering is a far cry from the former local channels though. Music selection is often repeated, looks like there are international playlists filtering though, there aren’t as many ‘themed events’ like the local channels (eg the top 1000 on Max between Christmas and NYE)

I’ve got to say I’m pretty disappointed and whilst I can understand the cost savings by doing this it’s short sighted given that music was up 18% YOY when they closed down and also the offering was strong

It’s a thumbs down from me on the music channel changes, they’ve gone from sometimes watched to never.
I always found the MTV channel to be much weaker than V, and now we just have a few different versions of the weak one.
