Foxtel Motorsport Coverage

Felt exceedingly odd we didn’t have a thread here for this.
Obviously Supercars is produced by themselves but fits best here (or occasionally Seven).

The new Supercars broadcast has been unveiled:

In short:

  • Richard Craill, Matt Naulty, and Chad Neylon are sharing lead play-ply-play duties. They will have rostered sprint races, and rotate during endurance races.
  • Garth Tander is the new lead analyst.
  • Mark Winterbottom and James Courtney are additional analysts, and will form three-man commentary teams for select events.
  • Neil Crompton has formally declined his reduced opportunity, and Mark Skaife has a new role for Fox.

There are also new graphics, 4K UHD broadcasts, and live team radio.

The new, bespoke custom graphics package doesn’t just look better

Everything they’ve released so far looks very similar to last year…

This quote caught my eye:

“4K Ultra High Definition, produced in High Dynamic Range, meets the highest-standard global broadcast, bringing the mighty Supercars machines to life on screen.”

So does that mean Foxtel will finally roll out HDR UHD content on IQ 4&5 and Kayo..? (not holding my breath

I wonder who the NRL commentator they were enquiring about.

I think it’s a bit of a slap in the face to Neil who’s been leading the coverage for a long time, very informative as well.
The positive is the promotion of Neylon, Craig and Naulty who in particular I rate very highly.

I think the thing with single-sport single-network threads is that they all have a level of involvement into the output, don’t they?

There’s a team of hosts, comms, graphics, and stuff like that.

Fox has a huge stockpile of motorsport events but AFAIK they couldn’t claim such for really any. I mean, there’s F1/2/3, Indy NXT, NASCAR, MotoGP, Supercars, and the list goes on, which are all outside prods.

Dan Ginnane I believe

We can also talk about of Foxtel’s coverage of other motorsports here, even though they are outside productions.

Fox has a lot of Motorsport coverage.

Kayo Sports will continue to be Australia’s home of Formula 1 following the signing of a multi-year extension, which ensures every F1 race, qualifying session and practice will continue to be shown live on the platform.

Another terrible outcome for F1 fans and sports fans in general. This ridiculous sports platform keep getting rights and they absolutely destroy them with their pathetic coverage and decision making and over priced platforms.

Unsure if this has been reported elsewhere, but Paul Murray(!) is expected to be a host on the new Motorsport 360 show (News Corp have also reported this). Will be an adjustment for him not being able to rant and rave about wokeness.

if we get the option to take the global commentary again it will at least make it better. I’m over the Brit bias of Crofty and the gang. I get it. they are Brits and want to see a Brit win, but they forget the commentary goes all over the world.

The Blackbox article indicates the global commentary will be available for “select” races this year. Not sure why we can’t get it for races…

They haven’t disclosed how long this deal is for. That’s also annoying. Social media commentary on this is nearly all negative. The abject hatred of Foxtel knows no bounds. F1 fans openly despise them having the rights.

From what I’ve see, it seems to be the DTS/F1 fans who only have Kayo for the F1 are upset. Motorsport fans who like more than one discipline are less “despising”.

There was a reason.
