  • Australia’s first ever 4K football broadcast – Barcelona v. Real Madrid
  • Continued 4K coverage of select matches of the 2018/2019 LaLiga season
  • Heralds Foxtel’s summer of sport with exclusive live cricket in November

Foxtel today continued its drive to deliver ground-breaking sports coverage to Australians like never before, announcing the country’s first ever 4K football broadcast with the upcoming LaLiga El Clasico matchup between Barcelona and Real Madrid, in partnership with beIN SPORTS. The game will broadcast live and in 4K ultra high definition at 2AM (AEDT) Monday October 29 on Foxtel’s dedicated 4K channel (444).

The news comes on the heels of Foxtel’s recent, history-making, broadcast of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 in 4K, and comes just weeks before Foxtel brings Australians the first ever live 4K cricket broadcast, which also arrives with Foxtel’s exclusive coverage of Australian cricket throughout November

The 4K broadcast of the Barcelona vs Real Madrid game adds a third major sport series to Foxtel’s 4K line up and comes as part of Foxtel’s long-standing relationship with beIN SPORTS, who are partnering with Foxtel to supply 4K footage of the LaLiga series.

The move will also see ongoing 4K coverage of two LaLiga games every round of the 2018/2019 season, continuing from 4 November for Foxtel Sports subscribers with the HD pack and an iQ4.

Patrick Delany, Foxtel CEO, said, “After blowing fans away with the twists and turns of the Bathurst 1000 earlier this month and getting the nation keyed up for the arrival of cricket in 4K on 4 November, we’re thrilled to feature select games of one of Europe’s most popular Football leagues, LaLiga, which will kick off, LIVE and in 4K with the El Clasico match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, starting 29 October.

“Foxtel has revolutionised entertainment by filling Australian living rooms with the sights of 4K and it looks amazing. Now, we’re picking up the pace by adding more incredible 4K sport to bring it to life even faster for our customers.

"And in November, the only place to watch cricket will be on Foxtel as we rev up for a spectacular summer of sport. There’s never been a better time to sign up and experience sport like never before.”

In addition to the two games that will air in 4K, fans will also be able to watch every game of the 2018/19 LaLiga season live and in HD on beIN SPORTS, which features the biggest names in international football with live coverage of LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and more.

Foxtel’s new, dedicated, 4K live channel (channel 444) comes as part of a Foxtel Platinum HD or Foxtel Sports HD subscription for customers with an iQ4.

Foxtel in 4K offers a host of 4K content including movies, documentaries, concerts and live sport. Over the next 12 months, Foxtel will continue to expand the selection of unique 4K content for subscribers, including the Australian 4K debut of live cricket, which will start with the November 4, Australia v. South Africa, as part of the Gillette ODI Series.

Might be of BeinSport’s doing. Hoping the audio quality is as good as the video quality because most of those games are called from Qatar.

Michael Bublé

Exclusive feel good evening

Simulcast on Foxtel Smooth and Foxtel’s dedicated 4K Channel

Saturday 24 November at 8.30pm AEDT

Foxtel invites viewers to an exclusive feel good evening with multi-Grammy Award winning artist Michael Bublé who is set to release his new album  (pronounced love) on November 16, for Foxtel’s first locally produced concert performance special shot in 4K and simulcast on both Foxtel Smooth (channel 133/806) and in 4K on Foxtel’s dedicated 4K channel (444). Smooth’s Feel Good Night with Michael Bublé on Saturday November 24 at the special time of 8.30pm AEDT .

Filmed exclusively for Foxtel Smooth at Sydney’s Seymour Centre during his recent Australian visit, Bublé lights up the stage in front of an intimate audience with music from his new album  including ‘When I Fall in Love’ and ‘ Love You Anymore’ as well as some of his greatest hits, ‘Feeling Good’ and ‘Save The Last Dance For Me’.

Michael Bublé is set to release  as his first studio album in two years following a break from public life to spend time with his family after his son’s cancer diagnosis. The Canadian singer-songwriter returned to the studio with a new perspective on life and a renewed commitment to honouring the music he has always loved.

Foxtel Smooth sits down with Michael Bublé before his performance where he emotionally reflects over the last two years and recounts his time away after such a life changing experience. Bublé also talks about the new album , his enthusiasm for his return to Australia, his deep connection with his audience and the gratitude and admiration he has for them.

“How wonderful it feels to come somewhere and to never be afraid to just let yourself go and be comfortable in your skin and to feel like you are enough and that’s how I have always felt. I never have to be careful or censor myself because people have this really wonderful sense of humour and deep kind of kindness and always feel like I belonged,” Bublé said.

Michael Bublé has sold over 60 million records worldwide (with nearly 3.3 million of those in Australia alone), has performed hundreds of sold-out shows around the globe, and won four Grammys and multiple Juno Awards during the course of his extraordinary career. Australia welcomed him back with open arms during his recent visit and now Foxtel viewers can share this intimate evening- Smooth’s Feel Good Night with Michael Bublé on Foxtel Smooth and the 4K Channel, Saturday November 24 at 8.30pm AEDT.

Fraser Stark, Group General Manager of Foxtel’s Entertainment & Music Channels said, “Michael Bublé is a global superstar, and a favourite of Australian audiences, for very good reason. Naturally Foxtel Smooth jumped at the opportunity to capture his electric Australian performance - not only for the channel but for our first 4K simulcast. As we’ll all see and hear, from November 24th, the room can barely contain Bublé’s suave voice, his effusive charm and the consummate musicianship of a great talent at the height of its powers.”

seems to be an issue with with the 4K channel that I (along with a few on whirlpool) have experienced where the 4K channel is showing the “lock” symbol on the icon when scrolling though channels (giving the impression the viewer is not subscribed) but when turning on the channel it works fine

This year Foxtel will host a dedicated channel screening 170 matches of NRL, AFL, Super Rugby, Formula One racing, A-League and women’s football across the season in 4K

Will it use the existing channel 444 or set up another channel for the sports? Also, given so many sports take place at the same time on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, not every match can be shown live in 4K.

Foxtel 4K for winter sport codes

NRL, AFL, Super Rugby and Women’s Football

Foxtel will continue to change the game in 2019 as it makes this season’s winter sport codes hotter than ever with a host of amazing sport set to arrive in 4K Ultra HD. Select match-ups across NRL, AFL, Super Rugby and Women’s Football will light up Australian living rooms in 4K Ultra HD as Foxtel secures its place as the home of sport in 4K Ultra HD.

The upcoming 4K Ultra HD fixtures will be available on Foxtel’s dedicated 4K Ultra HD channel (channel 444) and will air live, with no ad breaks during play.

Foxtel’s massive 4K Ultra HD sport expansion comes on the heels of its incredibly successful first broadcast of Supercars at Bathurst and a complete summer of cricket, which thrilled Australians with the country’s first ever 4K Ultra HD cricket broadcasts. Fans were treated to a season full of the amazing detail that only 4K Ultra HD can bring to sports and, this winter, Foxtel is continuing to deliver like never before.

Super Rugby looked fabulous in 4K Ultra HD last weekend. The stars of Foxtel’s upcoming 4K Ultra HD winter of sport are the highly anticipated 2019 NRL and AFL seasons. Foxtel will showcase more than 40 NRL games and more than 40 AFL matches in 4K Ultra HD. The NRL’s 4K Ultra HD revolution kicks off on March 15 as the Knights go head-to-head against the Sharks; and then on March 22 with the Raiders taking on the Storm.

AFL enters the 4K Ultra HD action on March 23 with Melbourne taking on Port Adelaide at the MCG; and with St. Kilda and the Gold Coast Suns battling it out in 4K Ultra HD at Marvel Stadium on March 24.

This season will mark the first time ever that these two massive sport codes will air in 4K Ultra HD in Australia. Foxtel is committed to bringing fans closer to the game than ever before, and the best way to do that is through creating the ultimate stadium experience at home with 4K Ultra HD.

The 2019 4K Ultra HD action got an early start on February 23 with Super Rugby when the Brumbies took on the Chiefs at GIO Stadium. The next Super Rugby match-up lands on March 2 with the Reds and the Crusaders at Suncorp, followed on March 9 when the Waratahs and the Reds battle it out at the SCG.

The Women’s Football: Cup of Nations will make its 4K Ultra HD debut on February 28 as Argentina takes to the field against Korea, and when our Matildas square off against New Zealand.

Additional 4K Ultra HD sport arrivals include select Wallabies games and the Hyundai A-League Grand Final.

Patrick Delany, Foxtel CEO, said, “Foxtel’s summer of cricket brought a revolutionary way to experience sport to Australian screens like never before and our subscribers loved it. But, the Foxtel in 4K Ultra HD revolution is just getting started.

“This year we’re taking another huge step forward and lighting up Australia’s favourite winter codes in 4K Ultra HD, putting fans in the centre of the action to witness incredible tries, nail-biting goals, and spectacular marks in 4K Ultra HD, and the only place you’ll be able to experience it is on Foxtel.”

Fox League’s coverage on Channel 444 also has a 4K Ultra HD tag next to the watermark. This was taken from Canberra v Melbourne last night.

Fox Footy’s 4K broadcast of Melbourne v Port Adelaide today is the same.

Is that in place of the usual No Ad Breaks During Play, or whatever it is?

Exactly. HD and SD broadcast still has the tag No Ad Breaks.
