wow they couldn’t even give a shit to make a full half hour about the two teams competing, they have to make it about themselves.

Supercars announced this morning details of the final rounds of this year’s championship. Following this weekend’s Townsville SuperSprint, the drivers will have a week off before two The Bend SuperSprint rounds on September 19-20 and September 26-27, and then a Bathurst season finale on October 15-18.

The Australian reports Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany has warned the subscription-television service will only chase “tier one” sports in the future, and predicted streaming service Kayo would help double Foxtel’s average sports audience by next year. Delany said he was “fearless” of losing sports that were asking too much for broadcast rights. He made the comments during the Asian media APOS Virtual Series yesterday afternoon.

ie. cricket, AFL, NRL, golf, motor sport (F1 and Supercars)

If his warning is true, expect the number of Fox Sports channels to be reduced because they won’t have as many sports to cover like in the past.

and loose subscribers as well

The problem with this argument/logic is a pay TV sports service can’t function solely by relying on ‘tier one’ sports.

It’s not about the airing those sports. It’s about paying top $ for sports. You’ll have leagues for instance the NBL paying for production and entering into a revenue share for the broadcast

the NBL offered to pay Fox Sports for showing but Fox rejected it, so they went to ESPN instead. The only reason Fox is showing the WNBL and the W-League is the money given to them by the Federal Government ($40 million) to show women’s and minority sports.

Interestingly, I only found out a few months ago that the Women’s game is still run by Basketball Australia whereas the NBL is run by Larry Kessleman - BA were keen to see if Kessleman would take on the womens game as well at one point

Good spot. Although in their defence, The Australian Open might as well have been in 1999, that’s how long ago it feels given the events of the year.
