Yep, all men’s premiership season AFL matches are produced in 4K these days.
I think this is the final GF on Fox with 7’s commentary? When talking about the new deal on SEN a few months ago, Lyon told Tom Morris that Fox will also be calling the GF but it won’t go to air until after the match actually finishes. I don’t know if he is correct.
TBH I don’t really see the point in doing a separate Grand Final broadcast when you won’t be able to show it until 6pm - apart from the ability to use pieces of it in retrospectives, etc.
Will Fox be allowed to dub historical matches
Depends if they have clean raw footage of matches - these might possibly exist for matches prior to 2002, however, doubt it exists for games in 2001 and prior.
Didn’t they re-commentate old matches during covid times?
I think they only did live recalls of games from 2002 and after.
Matches going back to at least the early 90s were produced with both a broadcast mix and a non-commentary mix recorded to tape. Those archives have been kept by the AFL so in theory the material is there if Fox wanted to re-commentate old games. But honestly apart from doing it for a special event, I think the audience prefers to hear the original contemporaneous commentary of the day on the replays.
Several callers to post-game radio shows said they had also watched the entire replay, even though they were listening to live radio coverage of the 2006 game. "I just thought it was different because of satellite delay or something,‘’ one caller said.
I feel like that’s just a promotional one?
All of them are, NEP does that as standard. Seven just broadcasts in HD.
Not particularly surprising, given it would be expensive to buy the rights to the music.
Yeah every post they had had “Courtesy of (labels)”.
Fox League do this now, can’t see why but they do. Same with SOO, so I’d expect Footy to do it. Sadly may mean a dilution of the commentators, with, for example, Gerard and Huddo not being heard live.
Exactly, they’d probably get more of a backlash than it’s worth.
I never understood our broadcasters childish nature in this country
Would it really really hurt Fox to tell people to tune into Channel 7/Prime/7+ to watch the Grand Final and then to tune in for the replay
This crap where Ch 7 and Fox dont even acknowledge each others existence is nothing short of ridiculous and network pissing contests. The viewer doesnt care
You know what the viewer cares about? Where to watch the game
And this goes for Ch 7 too - if you’re not broadcasting the match, it seriously wont hurt you to advise people to tune into Fox/Kayo to watch
Maybe one day these broadcasters can grow up
The re-dubbed the 2001 Ess VS North “greatest comeback” match with Huddo reprising his commentary role, with Dunstall and David King alongside it - its hilarious because David King is playing in the match
Its not as a fun as the live commentary “good luck to the producer who has to create a highlights package of this match” is one of my favourite lines of commentary from the game - but the new banter between Huddo and King asking “do you think Essendon has any chance?” is quite funny.
Agree.
If you watch NBA and NFL match broadcasts you can see the broadcasters acknowledge each other, especially during playoffs time.
Fox League has been doing this with the NRL Grand Final for a while. I believe this feed is also the one distributed to world broadcasters. Maybe the same premise with the AFL Grand Final from next year?
IIRC, with the NRL when they post highlights online, they use the footage from the host broadcaster (i.e. if it’s a Nine game, they get the clips from Nine, if it’s a Fox game, they get the clips from Fox) - might be the same case with AFL next year.
Also, wouldn’t most overseas broadcaster’s use the Nine feed, since IIRC the Grand Final is only live on Nine?
That’s because they’re contractually required to do so.
You’d think it’d be the case but I’ve heard some broadcasters used the Fox League feed instead. Maybe because they didn’t want all the Nine cross promotions - which is fair.
But how can they use the Fox feed since it’s not live (unless they do it live and somehow are allowed to supply it to overseas broadcasters).
It’s done live - only tape delayed for Australia to protect Nine’s domestic rights.
I think that’s what they will do with AFL from 2025. I think that’s what Lyon said months ago when he said Fox will be calling it but not showing it until afterwards
According to Media Diary, Robbo will be leaving AFL 360,
