So far none of these shows appear to be on a regular weekly schedule, instead being fitted around the fixtures.
Great for the summer but not sure how much Fox has got when it comes to programming during the offseason/international tours (remembering they don’t have the UK Ashes and the World Cup rights are primarily with Nine - the two biggest cricket events in 2019).
Cricket AM should be on today, and every day onwards, because there are cricket matches played around the world and fans would like to see some cricket news from other countries. It could even collaborate with one of the cricket websites (e.g. ESPN Cricinfo, Wisden, Cricket365).
Nine has the rights to the UK Ashes. It negotiated directly with the England and Wales Cricket Board back in 2013 and signed a separate contract to show the 2015 and 2019 series. This article is from November 2013.
If Foxtel get the 2023 Ashes series, it will be able to utilise the 4K coverage of Sky Sports. The UK broadcast rights to the 2021/22 series in Australia is up for grabs, with incumbent broadcaster BT Sport and Sky expected to fight for it.
Same reason 7 recently sold the last year of their Australian Open rights to 9?
Now that Nine doesn’t have the major Cricket deal they may not be interested in airing it and Fox could see more value to include it for their subscribers.
Nine will keep them, they resigned Mark Taylor soon after they lost domestic rights so they can use him for those games (They will likely take a Sky UK feed unlike in 2015 where they sent talent over).
Seven still have Wimbledon even though they lost the Australian Open rights after all.
Tomorrow (Wednesday October 10)
JLT One-Day Cup final: Victoria v Tasmania
10.00am-4.30pm AEDT live on Fox Cricket, then 4.30pm-7.00pm AEDT live on Fox Sports 505
Pakistan v Australia: first test
4.30pm-midnight AEDT live on Fox Cricket
If it’s anything like AFL/NRL Tonight, it’ll essentially be a FSN show which also airs on Fox Cricket
The JLT Cup Final should have been scheduled for later in the week after the 1st Pakistan v Australia test finished. This changing channels part way through an match thing is ridiculous
Watching this Pak v Aus Test match, this is how the commentary should be for all cricket. Good mix of new and experienced Pakistani and Australian commentators with all combinations used. All ex-players which means more analysis and less if any play by play.
News Corp reports Fox Cricket’s coverage this summer will have a new animated duck to be voiced by Shane Warne It will be used when a batter walks back to the pavilion after he or she is dismissed for no score.
According to Mumbrella, Fox Cricket will only run 24/7 until March 2019 meaning it will be a seasonal channel unlike Fox Footy and Fox League. We can assume that general sport will return to Channel 501 from April to late September.
Surely that’s just referring to the matches they’ll be producing and broadcasting from Australia that run within that time frame. There’s a World Cup next year, along with their broadcast of IPL and other international cricket content, you’d think there’d be plenty of content to show 365 days a year. Remains to be seen though I guess!
