Wanderers sack embattled coach

Former title-winning Newcastle Jets mentor Gary van Egmond has been appointed Western Sydney Wanderers interim coach following the sacking of Alen Stajcic.

New Zealand football - still owned by Newcastle Jets FC.

West Ham beat Sunderland 3-1 for their first home win since November.

Although the spotlight, for a moment late in the game, was on Xhaka’s altercation with a fan.

What a great win Man United! Arsenal 2 Manchester United 3.

What the actual fuck? Absolute moron.

Good, now can we get rid of the NZ teams from the A-league? Bring in South Melbourne and another team and make it a completely Australian competition.

Won’t happen. They’ve paid license fees and the APL needs as much of that as they can get.

South Melbourne can stay where they are. Anyone who screwed around with the old NSL as much as they did (among others) can stay down there and rot. Especially SMFCMike on X/Twitter.

I’m for a complete retooling of the entire Australian football pyramid, and bringing in the New Zealand national leagues at NPL/state level. Because if you bring in promotion and relegation, the two NZ teams need somewhere to be relegated to, and promoted from. Wales has teams in the English system and all Liechtenstein teams play in the Swiss system, so it does happen. OFC needs to be killed off and those nations either go to AFC or CONCACAF, preferably AFC for ease of allowing NZ to play in our system.

But that won’t happen as the OFC are way too comfortable being mediocre now that they have a direct link to the World Cup thanks to FIFA’s greed.

Which is so frustrating to Australian football fans more than a few days old who dealt with us beating up our Oceania competition but never qualify for world cups when we were in that federation…

Oh yes, very frustrating. Their shenanigans back in the day are part of the reason why I have the health conditions I have now (long story, won’t repeat it now)

The OFC needs to be shut down. It’s basically New Zealand and several small islands. But FIFA, and the entire associated eco-system is too corrupt and/or too stupid to realize this. They don’t deserve a direct path to the WC. They should go through a play-off with AFC or CONCACAF at the most.

Also the OFC “Pro” League is going to be Australia and/or New Zealand beating up on OFC sides. Much like the OFC Champions League.

I’ll have to buy you a beer one day just to hear that story

I recall discussions 20 or more years ago about Oceania getting direct qualification, when we were still in it and Blatter was still in charge. Another lie Blatter told to probably feather his nest, but now that Australia went and joined Asia they get it. Just hands a free pass to NZ to qualify really.

I’d have to turn down the beer for those reasons that led to the story. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I recall those. Blatter was a lying corrupt arse hole, as was a whole bunch of FIFA officials back then. Not much has changed since those days, as Infantino has proven recently.

FIFA needs to be shut down and a new global governing body that is not corrupt and monitored to within an inch of its life put in its place.

NZ can basically book the air flights for World Cup finals from now until the end of the world and do very little to earn it. That’s not right. Sorry Kiwis, but you know it’s true! NZ in the OFC is like a large, overfed fish in a small fish bowl.

Lol. Why would they even do that? Sure, get rid of a team that’s currently first on the table? Give Victoria another team for no reason whatsoever? That makes sense.

I believe Japan was pushing for Asia to be split in two… australia and NZ and Oceania could be merged into an Eastern Asian federation

They probably won’t, money, money money but doesn’t the A in the A-league stand for Australian? I don’t care who is on top last time I checked Auckland and Wellington were not in Australia. So IMO it’s the A-league not the ANZ-league. Both teams have a scattering of NZ players, enough to start their own league. I hate my team going to NZ to play the ‘foreign’ teams. :winking_face_with_tongue:
