Paris St Germain have become the second French team (after Olympique de Marseille) to win the UEFA Champions League, thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich.
Police have charged a 24-year-old West Melbourne man and a 27-year-old Kingsville man with several offences relating to allegedly manipulating cards for gambling purposes in four A-League matches during April and May.
Football Australia has placed “no-fault interim suspensions” on the two players following the charges. One player is from the A-League and one plays in a state league.
The two men were bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 31.
UPDATE 3/6: media reports have named the A-League player charged as Riku Danzaki from Japan, who plays for Western United.
Australia has defeated Japan 1-0 in the AFC World Cup qualifier in front of a crowd of 57,226 at Perth’s Optus Stadium tonight, thanks to Aziz Behich’s strike in the 90th minute, his first Socceroos goal in 13 years.
It’s Japan’s first loss in a World Cup qualification match since October 2021.
Saudi Arabia defeated Bahrain 2-0 overnight, and remain third on the group C points table, three points and -8 in goal difference behind Australia. That means Saudi Arabia need to beat the Socceroos by at least four goals in their final match in Jeddah next week, to overhaul the goal difference and directly qualify for next year’s World Cup.
South Korea and Iran have qualified for next year’s World Cup. South Korea beat Iraq 2-0 in Basra, while Iran lost 1-0 to Qatar in Doha.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan have qualified to thr FIFA World Cup for the first time, following a 0-0 draw to The United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi.
Jordan have also qualified to the FIFA World Cup for the first time, beating Oman 3-0 in Muscat.
