The draw for this year’s FIFA World Cup was made in Qatar overnight.

If Australia qualify by winning the next two playoffs, they will face France, Denmark and Tunisia in Group D.
The other inter-continental playoff winner (either New Zealand or Costa Rica) will be in Group E alongside Spain, Germany and Japan.
The winner of the European play-off (either Scotland or Ukraine) will be in Group B with England, USA and Iran.

The Matildas have just beaten New Zealand 2-1 in Game 1 of the International Friendly. The Matildas scored their two goals in stoppage time at the end of the match. What a finish.

While Herald Sun describes the match as a friendly, it may also be considered as the final game of South American (CONMEBOL) qualification for the FIFA World Cup later this year. BeIN Sport has the Australian rights to CONMEBOL qualifiers and will be a favourite to air this clash.

It is not a friendly. It is a World Cup Qualifier. But it is a pseudo-friendly as the match will have no bearing on qualification (other than needing to be played to satisfy FIFA).

I believe that they do have the rights, yes. They are the South American qualifiers rights holders.

You’d think that a FTA channel (even just SBS or 10) would want to purchase the rights should beIN entertain a simulcast.

UPDATE: the Leeds United-Crystal Palace clash will be held at Optus Stadium, to be followed by Manchester United v Aston Villa the following night.

Good win to Western United. Their first A-League title after being founded just 4 years ago. Not bad for an expansion side
