The Australian Professional Leagues are in the advanced stages of talks to sell a significant stake of the competitions to US-based firm Silver Lake.

While A-League clubs will likely receive some of the windfall of the proposed sale, most of the funds will be put towards building a new digital media platform, as well as covering the costs of the competition’s promotion, long-term operating costs, future investments and, potentially, enabling clubs to buy more marquee players.

It’s the first time in 14 years that I’m thinking about throwing in the towel.

I’ve never ever thought about throwing in the towel as much as I had when I heard those comments.

There’s no support from Government, there’s no support from the central body (Australian Professional Leagues).

They have a point though!

The WC is going to cause havoc for the NRL in terms of venues. Do they suspend the season?

It won’t just be the period during the WC itself, there is usually a shoulder period either side for handover where the venues will be unavailable too

That said, there are more than enough venues for the NRL to continue during the World Cup, even if they have to do some double headers or take games regionally.
