Thank you @Rob2144 & @tvcl for implementing the new RDS Plug-in.
This will make my & our lives editing & updating the RDS List so much easier.
I hope the other Aussie (& NZ ) webserver hosts can implement this RDS new plug-in as soon as practical.
I’ve only seen one previous SDR program that was able to decode RDS traffic data, but this plug-in is so much better for that data. I look forward to playing more with the plug-in.
I’m sure if the the new RDS plug-in is rolled out across more TEF webserver hosts it will assist more techs in diagnosing more RDS problems with their station transmissions.
I also note that the plug-in has now been added to the Melbourne Cheltenham webserver.
I have also updated my 2 FM Webserverws with the RDS Expert plugin if anyone is interested
A feww changes happening in Perth
As most would be aware ABC is transitioning from MW to FM in the next 8 weeks. this has thus required a few changes on the Perth FM Band to facilitate it
Community station 102.5 KCR has moved to 88.9 and is currently running a test loop on 102.5
103.3 MAC has moved to 106.5 simulcasting for a few weeks before switch off, it has also had a TX site change. Reports seem to indicate a noticeable improvement in audio and TX quality.
Semi local 102.3 HITS Lancerlin is moving to 102.9 there is a test loop on that freq before switchover next week the 5th Jan 26
Similarly 103.9 MMM Lancerlin is moving to 104.5 which is also running a test loop before switchover next week the 5th Jan 26
Signal levels on all new freqs are slightly down compared with original freqs but this should/will hopefully improve once the original TXs are turned off in late Jan 26
FM tOnce this has been done, in about 8 weeks the ABC services will move over to FM
I was expecting 96FM to rebrand on the 1st of Jan 2026 to GOLD96 FM but this has not taken place?

UPDATE UPDATE

96FM anounced on their FB Page on the 3rd Jan 26 that the changeover is coing soon. I suspoect when either the new ratings period starts or the Breky crew getr back from holidays in a week or so
This is a great plugin. Though I have noticed a quirk - if you run the webserver on a subdirectory like I do (tuner.nnode.net/fm1 for example), it doesn’t appear to correctly resolve it as it only shows the top-level domain name. I have let Lucas know on the FMDX discord and hopefully it is fixed soon. Otherwise it seems to work fine if you manually specify the correct server address.
TVCL East is now back online, but as previously noted, I have a 10-storey tower in the way of NZ, so it probably isn’t going to be the best performer.
My TEF servers that aren’t the headless ones also stop decoding RDS sometimes (the vertical, SW and MW servers). Let me know if you notice a lack of RDS on any of these servers and I’ll reset the server. I just did this for the vertical Yagi as the RDS wasn’t decoding on it.
As AustralianRadio232 has seemingly discovered (based on his DXing of ABC News Batemans Bay), the Sydney SW TEF is also connected to a 7-element Yagi facing the South Coast.
I haven’t really published this on the server description as the antenna installer put the south and east aerials really closely together on the antenna pole so they interfere with each other – he said he couldn’t give more separation due to the mast supports / guy wires being in the way. So now the west aerial also picks up the South Coast signals strongly and the aerial pointing towards the South Coast isn’t necessarily better at picking up signals from the South Coast than the southwest antenna pointed towards Canberra :/. Not sure what the best solution is – each time I call him out to adjust the aerials, it’s usually several hundred dollars and installing another pole would be too unsightly.
Hi Everyone, I’ve taken my Brisbane server offline for now, because I’ve figured out the coax was radiating RF noise into my study which was affecting my amateur radio 80m band reception. I tried to put common mode chokes on to the coax but it didn’t help much.
So it’s pushed forward my plans to put the server and headless TEF in an enclosure on the roof at the base of the antenna! So I’ll have only 2-3m of coax to the box rather than 20m of coax. It should help my sensitivity. I’ve ordered parts of make it happen…
If anyone else is getting a headless TEF anytime soon, let me know via PM and we can do a group buy and split the postage from Europe. My TEFs that aren’t headless keep dropping RDS, so I’m wanting to solve that problem.
For fellow FM-DX-Webserver operators, the RDS database syncs with FMList every Tuesday, so if yours hasn’t updated yet, you may want to restart your servers to get the automated DX alerts/logging. Just the past hour of alerts on my servers:
The tuner itself? Or the notifications? I’ve always just used it on my phone’s web browser. The notifications are sent to me as private messages on Telegram.
At least with many ABC outlets now with RDS, these auto logging DX alerts are quite useful now. More useful for skip since hunting for Es is a time sink!
Tropo is much easier to monitor (at least here) as it always peaks in the early morning.
In the spirit of making more Australian TEF servers available, I’m offering a free TEF radio for anyone wanting to set up a public TEF server as I’ll be switching two of my servers to a single headless TEF. This will free up two of my existing TEFs. One’s reserved for Parex11, so there’s one left up for grabs.
Free pick up available in Sydney or I can mail it out (if you pay for the postage).
Note: It will only be available after my new headless TEF arrives.
I was able to resolve the Non Stereo reception on my 2nd Perth South East FM Webserver.
Even though I was getting stereo audio out of the headphone jack of the Silver TEF6686 the FM Webserver was only outputting Mono. Even though it was setup as stereo in the PCs control panel.
The issue turned out to be the SB Play3 USB dongle. After I transfered the ooutput of the TEF6686 to the MIC input of the PCs onboard Realtek sound card it all worked perfectly. I have NO IDEA why I didnt do this in the first place. I suspect as I was using the original dongle for SSTV decoding and just thought it would be suitable and if anything provide better audio quality.
Anyway full stereo services is now available on the 2nd Perth SE FM Webserver.
The 2 semi local TXs 102.3 and 103.9 in Lancerlin aprox 151kms north of me, have been turned of and now only 102.9 HITS and 104.5 MMM in service at a reduced coverage here .
So I guess its all ahead for the launch later this month of ABC Perth on 102.5 and subsequent other services to be turned on?.
I expect there will be some test transmissions before that date.
I have created an FM-DX Webserver plugin to make tuning the FM band faster. On my Sydney TEF servers, you can now use the buttons ‘,’ and ‘.’ to tune -/+ 200 kHz at a time, bypassing the even ending frequencies that we don’t typically use in Australia (.0, .2, .4, .6, .8), alongside with some overrides:
Even frequencies it will stop at: 87.6, 87.8, 88.0 for LPON services + 103.2 for Hope in Sydney
Odd frequencies it will skip: 87.5, 87.7, 87.9, which are not generally used
Of course, normal -/+ 100 kHz tuning is still available using the left/right keys, but this provides a faster option to scan through the whole band more quickly to look for any DX signals.
Good addition, though in an Es opening it’s foolish to skip even frequencies! Even in a QLD opening you might miss some oddities such as the pirate I got on 90.0.
