Does 10 typically do anything for this? Guessing they’ll have coverage during regular bulletins throughout the day / night etc.

10 Late News will definitely cover the Budget next Tuesday night.

Because of the three hour time difference between Perth and Canberra, there will be extensive reporting of the Budget on 10 News First Perth next Tuesday also (the speech will be delivered at 4.30pm AWST).

Will it come from the main set?

In the days prior to the late news, they usually have a late night bulletin, so I guess there will be extended coverage in the late news (bulletin likely live as well)

Budget Night 2025: Full coverage on the ABC
Tuesday 25 March from 7pm

The 2025 Federal Budget will be handed down on Tuesday 25 March with Treasurer Jim Chalmers delivering his fourth budget on the eve of a federal election campaign.

Despite February’s interest rate cut, the government is under pressure to deliver struggling households more cost-of-living relief while it also grapples with growing global uncertainty sparked by Donald Trump’s trade war.

Join the ABC’s expert team for the most extensive coverage and analysis of the Budget and what it means for you.

We also want to hear what you think should be in the Budget through the YOUR SAY project online and on local radio.

Coverage begins with Jeremy Fernandez presenting a Budget preview nationally from 7pm on the ABC NEWS channel and some 7PM News bulletins.

Following the Treasurer’s speech, Sarah Ferguson hosts a special Budget edition of 7.30 featuring interviews with Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor and analysis from 7.30 Political Editor Laura Tingle and politics journalist Tom Crowley.

At 8:30pm David Speers anchors a special Budget edition of Insiders live from Canberra Parliament House.

Coverage continues at 9.30pm on ABC NEWS channel with a special edition of The Business featuring analysis from business leaders and leading economists.

ABC Radio coverage begins with the Treasurer’s speech at 7.30pm and continues until 9pm with analysis on how the Budget impacts you.

ABC NEWS online will have a live blog capturing the latest developments and reaction plus analysis from our political and business experts, including Annabel Crabb, Ian Verrender and Jacob Greber, and explainers on key announcements and winners and losers. We’ll also have special content on our social channels.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s Budget Reply speech will be broadcast live at 7:30pm on Thursday 27 March.

*All times in AEDT

Tuesday’s Budget coverage on ABC News Channel will also be shown live into Asia-Pacific region on ABC Australia.

On Thursday, Peter Dutton’s Budget reply speech will be shown on delay at 8.15pm Hong Kong time (11.15pm AEDT), due to ABC Australia’s live AFL telecast.

once again ABC 7pm News abandons its already negligible local news coverage for a national program.

Guide for Sydney currently lists Nakari Thorpe presenting with Jeremy Fernandez bringing the latest on the budget, so I guess it will be similar to what they’ve done in the past for major events, etc, and have Jeremy do the budget packages, then hand back to the local newsrooms. The press release also implies he will be presenting a preview:

Hrmm ok that’s fair then if it’s a local bulletin with just a preview piece in it.

Your point still stands though. There’s just no local news on the ABC bulletins anymore.

Not like 10 to get on the front foot usually and put something like this out, kudos.

No mention of YouTube? Also doesn’t appear to be live outside of AEDT.

Q+A

Not really exclusive if they are already doing earlier interviews on ABC

There’s a chance the Treasure and Shadow Treasurer will be interviewed by all networks. Of course the interviews given will be “exclusive” to each.
