This is why this is just a waste of time and money by SBS! The juries have recognised our good songs (most years), viewers vote for their political neighbours and friends.
Isnโt competing enough though? Do we only care about winning it? I donโt think so.
If you actually read the comment section on YouTube, then youโd have noticed.
Not my problem if I wasnโt aware of this curtain-raiser prior. I just relayed the overwhelming complaint.
Iโve got better things to do than read comments from whingers on YouTube. Sure, it would be nice to have English commentary or subtitles but thereโs no reason for the broadcaster to go to extra effort. They broadcast it like that and merely uploaded it to YouTube for more viewers who wanted to see it.
Who knows, it may happen eventually. Somebody might add a version with some AI subtitles.
But thereโs more to it.
2 years in a row Australia just missed out on qualifying, however it has topped the semis in recent years.
2019 1st (3rd jury, 2nd tele)
2022 2nd (2nd jury, 8th tele)
2023 1st (televoting only, no jury)
I mean it canโt come first all the time.
There is a very good chance that it will top the jury. She is the clear favourite to win the jury vote based on betting odds.
I do get tired of the notion that Australia doesnโt do well with public, when we have won numerous semi-finals with public voting before (like outlined above). I actually wouldnโt expect a ballad like this to top the public vote regardless of the country. We have put in a perfect jury contender but something a little more poppy or upbeat will likely be favoured by the public.
If she can finish top 5 overall with this, that would be absolutely amazing.
I agree. Some people are too quick to write off support for Australia. It will wax and wane. We canโt always be first. Participation is the main thing.

Israel received roughly one-third of the televote. According to the NYT, "It would have taken just a few hundred people, voting en masse, to secure [Israel]โs victory." pic.twitter.com/W5wDqSY0mT

Itโs simple. Send a good entry. It will do well. The UK routinely sends bad entries (including this year) and that is reflected in the results. The one year in recent memory it sent a good entry (2022). They were runner-up. Same with Australia. Last yearโs entry was a mess. I was actually astonished it was 11th and came as close to qualifying as it did to be honest.
In closed discussions held at the European Broadcasting Union, a proposal was made to remove Israel from Eurovision in Europe and move it to the new competition being planned in Asia - Ynet learned today (Monday).
According to two sources who spoke to Ynet, the proposal was raised and discussed, with exploratory attempts being made with countries that have already joined Eurovision Asia and also with countries that are in talks about joining, regarding the issue of moving Israel. According to the same sources, there was partial opposition and it is doubtful whether the move will be able to get underway in the end, certainly in the coming year, since the Asian competition will be held in November.
No mention of Australia.
SBS have said they were invited but declined elsewhere.
I donโt think Israel will remove themselves from the big competition, regardless of this years results, which we know will most likely give it top2 positioning
SBS would probably be concerned that Australia may also then be asked to move to the Asian competition.
5am tomorrow it all starts.

Weโre underway. Not sure why there was a history lesson about 0-point performances.
Not sure why this was agreed on as a dragged-out performance either.
The lip syncing on GoJoโs Australia/Austria interlude was terrible.
