Eurovision Song Contest

I also think some artists mix up what the audience voting go for, sex doesn’t sell (ich komme, Kant, milkshake, whatever Olly song for UK)…but sexy does (slomo, half the Cyprus entries)

To mark 10 years since the release of her iconic Eurovision entry Sound of Silence, Dami is dropping a very special anniversary version of the song, this time featuring fellow Eurovision artists Electric Fields.

The track will be released on Wednesday March 11, exactly 10 years to the day Sound of Silence was originally released.

I agree — and as a Eurovision fan, I genuinely want Australia to do well and to keep earning its place. But it’s worth remembering that we’re not a permanent member of the contest. Australia is still participating under a rolling invitation, which means our inclusion is essentially conditional and can be withdrawn if the EBU decides it’s no longer working for them.

That’s why things like consistently strong entries, respectful engagement with the contest, and audience support actually matter more for us than for most countries. We don’t have the safety net of tradition or geography to fall back on. If Australia starts underperforming, losing viewer interest, or feeling like an awkward add-on rather than a genuine part of the show, there’s nothing stopping the invitation from quietly not being renewed.

So yes, I’m fully on board with wanting us to do well — not just for bragging rights, but because continued participation depends on proving we add value to the contest. Eurovision is ultimately a TV product, and our spot at the table isn’t guaranteed forever.
