ESPN AU/NZ

They did it for Wimbledon this year just a month or so back (ESPN2 carried Wimbledon in NZ, Disney+ carried extra court streams) but this one is now a D+ exclusive it seems. Confusing for the lay viewer I think.

To contradict myself, Disney+ seems to have quietly added every game of EuroBasket (basketball version of the Euros) to their upcoming schedule.

First game between Great Britain and Lithuania from Tampere, Finland has just started.

ESPN announced slight amendments to their NFL shoulder programming lineup this season.

  • On Tuesdays, NFL Live will air from 5-7am from the site of Monday Night Football
  • Monday Night Countdown will begin one hour later (no such gap for doubleheader weeks 2, 4, 6, 7*) and will also originate there, somewhat tellingly, “most weeks”

*W4 & 6 features 9:15a/10:15a kickoffs, while W2 & 7 features 9a/noon kickoffs

Additionally, a SportsCenter special, 2025 NFL Prediction Bonanza, hosted by Peter Schrager, will be broadcast on ESPN at 5am next Friday. It will lead directly into NFL Live.

And just minutes ago, ESPN also announced multi-year extensions with top NBA team (Richard Jefferson, Mike Breen, Lisa Salters), which will now be joined by analyst Tim Legler as well.

The quartet will call ABC Saturday Primetime (long regarded as the week’s top matchup), one Boxing Day game, and every playoff matchup given to ESPN.

Doris Burke also got the extension, but slides to the “B team” with (most of the time) Dave Pasch. She will continue to call the “next-biggest” matchups, one of which is the Sunday Showcase.

Meanwhile, the NHL schedule release was yesterday. Pretty awful split with 53 games on TV out of a hundred that ESPN will produce.

Coverage will be broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2 depending on editorial decisions. Only games with linear availability will be considered.

ESPN Australia 30 years scorebug now live (first seen during Notre Dame-Miami game).

Wonder if they will still be using the international feed instead of the US broadcast again this season.

Under the two-year deal, all 92 regular-season games and the entire Finals Series will be live and free on 9Now, with select marquee games on 9Go!. With 80+ games on ESPN and ESPN2, and every single game on ESPN on Disney+ – this season will spotlight the very best of Australian basketball.

Complete schedule breakdown.

Some very tight turnarounds expected given U.S. action usually last until 5.00pm AEDT any day of the week - not even considering overtime.

In fact, the very first game (Southside vs Canberra) will clash with game 5 of either of MLB’s Championship Series. I understand that local sport should be prioritized where possible, but not exactly a low-profile event worth switching away from.

They have two channels

Just first saw it today was thinking this was something to do with ESPN 30-30 films just to learn that ESPN is celebrating 30 years on air in Australia. Happy birthday ESPN, I hope they put some special to air with some old footage.

ESPN started as an Optus vision channel if I recall correctly before moving to Foxtel?

Correct. Started on Optus Vision in 1995.
Commenced on Foxtel October 2002.

Wonder what feed ESPN going to use for today during the Kickoff Game?

Last year was world feed, wonder if that’s still around with some improvements leading into tonight? or will the original feed return? (NBC)

So the answer to my question is yes until the lightning delay, but not since then?

Yes - must think that NBC’s coverage during the interruption is more comprehensive.
