ESPN AU/NZ

Interestingly, 7mate’s world feed didn’t show Mike and Chris, they still had the fixed LF Field shot, but did show the weather map with the NBC logo.

Starting this week, NFL RedZone will no longer be commercial free.

I watch full games nowadays. usually 6-7 including my Packers

It is an extension of a trial that began last year. As the article outlines, it will be four 15-second picture-in-picture ads between plays and none in the Witching Hour.

Good for you? Not exactly sure what this adds to the conversation.

You can bet on a dime that ESPN, being the global video feed, will do just that.

They’ve done worse before. Remember what was aired at about 12.15pm AEST on this day?

ESPN’s football lineup for this weekend.

Friday September 12
9.30am - NFL Blitz
10.15am - TNF: Packers vs Commanders (co-simulcast with 7mate)

Saturday September 13
9.30am - Houston vs Colorado (ESPN2)
11pm - College Gameday followed by ABC US coverage (Alabama vs Wisconsin, Tennessee vs Georgia, LSU vs Florida)

Sunday September 14 (ESPN2)
12.25am - Eredivisie: PEC Zwolle vs Ajax
After UFC - Ole Miss vs Arkansas (joined in progress)

Monday September 15
Midnight - Sunday NFL Countdown
3am - Cowboys vs Giants (Jets vs Bills on ESPN2)
6.25am - Chiefs vs Eagles
9.30am - NFL Blitz
10.20am - SNF: Vikings vs Falcons

Tuesday September 16 (First of 4 DHs this season)
7am - Monday Night Countdown
9am - MNF: Texans vs Buccaneers
Noon - MNF: Raiders vs Chargers

WNBA postseason action also tips off September 17-18 from 9.30am on ESPN with a DH each day.

They are all Game 2s in best-of-three format, so if everything works out, you could see all 4 series winners live.

Meanwhile, the US side has announced two special whiparound broadcasts to cover the MLB run home on Thursday Sep 11 & 18. But the Australian operation decided that that is not worthy of carrying whatsoever (even though MLBN’s Quick Pitch gets aired a fair lot), and it’s better to air taped/poker in its place.

Absolutely mind-boggling.

WNBA first round game 2s:

The doubleheader starts 9.30am each day on ESPN.

My complaint has been heard and it is now confirmed for ESPN2 at 9am, followed by coverage of Phillies vs Dodgers.

Week 2: ESPN took the main FOX feed for Giants-Cowboys early window before switching to international feed for the late game (Eagles-Chiefs).

Bills-Jets over on ESPN2 was international feed, not CBS.

That is because Giants-Cowboys was designated as “B” game while the other two games were both “A”.

Seriously why don’t they just take the world feed or the host feed and have a blanket rule?

Would they even have a choice though? Wouldn’t the NFL only be sending the world feed for world feed games to wherever ESPN AU master control is?

Staying with that game, ESPN still kept the Giants-Cowboys game since it went to OT. They joined Eagles-Chiefs in progress at Q1 4:54.

That’s what I mean. The NFL should just only send one feed all season

Eagles @ Chiefs Fox feed had audio issues on DAZN in the first quarter until early second quarter (didn’t air that way domestically as no complaints about it online from the home markets which got to see it, and clips exist with good audio from the affected portion) so DAZN switched to world feed until early second quarter.

World Feed fills the quarter breaks with a highlights compilation from the just finished quarter. As far as I can tell, based on the ESPN-hosted playoff last season where Seven took world feed and didn’t take ESPN’s half time show, the world feed doesn’t actually take the host broadcaster’s half time show (Seven had the world feed half time highlights compile and a lot of locked off shots of the stadium) so it seems that Seven and ESPN may be receiving both feeds and switching to host broadcaster for the half time show.

Just as we saw ESPN switch to NBC feed during the lightning delay last week while Seven stuck with world feed.

I can only guess that the NFL insist on World Feed being used where it exists during play but allow freedom of choice outside play. With exceptions for technical faults as ESPN switched to NBC during a SNF broadcast last year when the down and distance markers were absent from the world feed.

Incidentally, Seven and ESPN both took Amazon’s feed of TNF this Friday just gone, but Seven took the OB feed (no 30 sec US commercials inserted) while ESPN took the downstream full Amazon production which included the two box short commercials. Whether a World Feed exists of Amazon TNF, I don’t know, but there was a World Feed of Amazon playoff last season.

And Seven ended up with the OB feed of Fox’s Seahawks @ Steelers on Sunday which meant no Gamebreaks and no half time show. Seven filled half time with longer commercial breaks and intermittent locked off shots of the stadium with the FOX NFL bug. Honestly they didn’t miss much…Terry Bradshaw mumbling and stumbling through the half time highlights while being drowned out by the crowd outside the Chiefs’ stadium, and Curt being unable to see the screens through the sun glare to correct half of Terry’s mistakes was probably one of the worst half time shows Fox has ever done.

ESPN held its 2026 upfront at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo yesterday afternoon, also celebrating 30 years since it launched in Australia. It was revealed at the event that ESPN has extended its broadcast deal with FIBA (see above post) and also secured the Australian rights to UEFA Women’s Champions League, with every game live on Disney+.
