Driving & Traffic

I’ve driven along the Bruce Highway a couple of times by myself and yes there are parts of it that badly need fixing. There was a few roadworks sites last time I traveled through there , mainly between Bowen and Mackay

All regional and local roads in the City of Sydney area have had their speed limit slashed in an effort to reduce traffic accidents.

The change follows a reduction in speed limits across the City of Sydney area in recent years – with 75 per cent already covered by a 40km/h limit, up from just five per cent in 2004.

The new limit, funded by the New South Wales Government and due to be rolled out in the coming weeks, will apply to the remaining regional and local roads managed by the City of Sydney that currently have a 50km/h limit – which covers the areas of Glebe, Forest Lodge, Beaconsfield and Waterloo.

I’d never driven a vehicle the size of the RSPCA van I drove yesterday.Just as well it has reverse camera and blind spot detection. It also has Wireless Apple CarPlay so I was able to connect my phone and bring up maps to navigate to where I had to go.It’s hard to get into it as it’s a lot higher than my Mazda,I like being up higher though, have a great view of the road .
One of the other volunteers who’ve driven this vehicle have damaged the rear of it slightly.
If this is a manual van I wouldn’t be able to drive it as I’m only licensed to drive automatic vehicles

Bit late to the party here - but I’ve driven the entire Bruce Highway from Cairns to Bald Hills.

It needs duplication and realignment ASAP. If not duplication, at least Super-2 with plenty of overtaking opportunities.

I’m heading up the Bruce tomorrow, arriving in Townsville on Friday. Haven’t done the trip for nearly 25 years.

Thats amazing. Meanwhile the QLD government still takes more than 4 years to turn two lanes in to four.  :man_shrugging:

The final stage of Sydney Gateway project (road connection between WestConnex and Sydney Airport) will open on September 1.

Which road is that?

Gympie Rd I think?

Looking forward to that (and the Hexham bypass) both being finished in 2028 so we can have non stop travels from west of Geelong to north of Gympie, just over 2,000 kms!

The Tiaro bypass should almost be done then too. So that would mean non stop from Childers to Geelong.

Didn’t really see any evidence of a bypass under construction when I passed through Tiaro on Tuesday? But the Gympie one looked like it was not far off being finished.

Which can’t come soon enough as the traffic in Gympie was dreadful. As choked as I’ve ever seen a road outside of a capital city.

Gympie is awful, especially on weekends. It’s due to open before Christmas. There’s a public open day in August.

The Tiaro bypass apparently is starting in February next year so I’m looking forward to that too. They are also building it as a grade separated 4 lane bypass which is great too. But that took a LOT of effort by various politicians, councillors and public to get the Qld Govt to build it to 4 lanes. They were originally planning only a 2 lane Tiaro bypass which is a joke as the whole stretch between Gympie and Maryborough carries well in excess of 10,000 vehicles per day. Anyway, they finally saw sense but it took some doing.

I’ve recently moved to Brisbane and the traffic is probably the worst I’ve seen in any Australian city.

Stupidly designed streets, congestion all hours of the day along main roads.

Speed limit doesn’t seem to be properly signed along the roads. Google and Apple maps are unsure half the time as-well - I’ve already got a $340 fine for driving 5km over the limit

Amen to everything you have said. Literally.

The tunnels and exits are horrific. The navigation maps have absolutely no idea where to go. The amount of times I’ve gone around in circles in the city is a joke. I spent $25 on tolls in 30 minutes one night.

Truly the worst design, poorly signed layout I’ve ever had the pleasure to drive in.
