Thoughts on the Hills Spectramax SMX28B4+? Anyone have one installed and how well does it work in your area?

Quality Australian antennas. But I prefer the Fraccaros.

Depends what you will be using it for?

To try and get Adelaide or Mildura TV?

If so, given they are pretty much solely VHF (with the exception of community TV in Adelaide), you may be better off with a dedicated VHF antenna. Like this one.

Just wondering how well they worked, must work pretty well as they’re on quite a few houses on the Yorke Peninsula

That would not be a recommended antenna for any area now as it covers more than one band (VHF and UHF). So wherever you are 1/2 of the antenna is not being used. Eg in primary signal metro areas, the shorter elements extending out the front of the antenna are not used. These designs would have been suitable before the restacking of channels. Recommended antennas now are all for just one band for better efficiency and smaller size.

And the smaller UHF elements would be more likely to interfere with VHF reception than anything else.

Would probably need a pretty big mast/tower for the Hills DY-14

You could use it in the Gosford area?

Why?

I had one at my old house that was mounted on a standard 32mm mast, & was at about 2m above the roof peak.
The mast was braced though, because I lived on top of a hill & could get near cyclonic Southerly wind speeds.

I put it up probably 10 years before I moved out, & it’s still there today about 6 years after I moved out.

You wouldn’t put it on a facia mount bracket/mast unless it ran parallel to the facia/gutter though.

Getting Adelaide or Mildura TV into Renmark would be more difficult than getting Sydney into Eleebana or Floraville.

I guess it comes down to terrain between home and the transmitters. I did watch a video on Youtube about UHF and VHF transmissions, VHF tends to bend over terrain compared to UHF

Yeah, but I think Shaun was more getting at the size of the antenna rather than the gain, but don’t know because surprisingly according to the specs the antenna he first mentioned has more VHF gain than the DY-14?

It was an itch that had to be scratched…

Despite being in an apartment, I bought the following VHF Yagi antenna today to experiment with Sydney VHF and DAB reception.

https://www.jaycar.com.au/4-element-vhf-yagi-digital-tv-antenna/p/LT3152

The result has been very pleasing… Channel 10, on VHF11 which has always been the weakest for me, has improved from from being 4-5 out of 10 for signal quality (using rabbit ears) to 8-9 out of 10 … I have been watching it for the last 40 minutes and seen only a brief moment of pixelation. All other channels are 9-10 quality.

DAB, which on my Yamaha was only 1-2 bars out of 3 with rabbit ears, is now 3 bars.

I bought a 4G filter today.

Has anyone had any experience with these? Had wondered whether they benefit UHF more than VHF since the 4G frequencies are at the higher end of the old UHF band (52-69).

I live only a block from an Optus 4G base station, which I can see from my balcony, so was hoping it would have some improvement. Hard to say whether it’s made any difference yet, still getting the odd bit of pixelation on Sydney VHF.

Thankfully I’ve got VAST in Renmark, service on Seven is absolutely shithouse today lol

Are any neighbors having the same issue?

Surely reception in a decent sized town like Renmark should be better than that.

Few people on Facebook have said that Seven is dodgy from time to time. The Loxton transmitter hasn’t always been the best

Has anyone tried contacting WIN about the signal issues?

probably have. People have wanted a new transmitter built for years
