Heard MORE Digital being played in Harvey Norman’s bedding section over the weekend. It’s now being positioned as “The Best Mix of the 80’s and 90’s”
got into the car this morning with my mother in law. she had ColesCBD playing (as opposed to Coles, Coles WA & Coles TAS all in on air in brisbane) and i had to turn it off… it sounded so bad. mono at 16Kbs… worse than a phone line. the others are not much better - Coles is stereo 40Kbs, Coles WA is 16Kbs Mono and Coles Tas also mono at 16Kbs.
Yeah I’ve currently got MORE Digital on my morning alarm clock. It’s a bit hit and miss but gee they play some stuff that hasn’t been played for 20 years - I usually find myself humming along to something obscure all day. They are putting a bit of effort into the station too, with a brief national news and weather service and even a pre-recorded ‘Kim Wilde’ 80s show in the mornings. I’m not sure, but I think the news theme might be the ‘Austereo FM’ news theme from the 90s?
It’s amazing to think that, whilst their FM stations are generally nothing to write home about music-wise, SCA does have some of the best DAB+ stations in Australia, thanks to the likes of More Digital & Triple M Classic Rock Digital. One could say that their music playlists of both DAB+ stations would be almost like that of FM stations from overseas.
I find that when I rescanned my digital radio today, it still lists the Christmas pop up stations, but with a ? mark in front.
I suppose I should do a factory reset to make these disappear completely ??
Yeah, a factory reset will delete those defunct stations if a rescan doesn’t.
Which KMart was this? I have access to two - Ashfield and Marrickville…for $9…that’s good.
This discussion - Audiosonic FM/Digital Radio - $9 @ Kmart - includes comments from people who got the radio and some feedback about which stores have stock. Interesting feedback out the rechargeable battery and USB charger for the unit.
I went to a few where there was no stock (e.g. Sylvania), but I found stock at Hurstville, which isn’t too far from the two you mentioned. When I got it, there were at least 10 in stock. There was no price at all on the shelf, but scans for $9.
I thought it was a little pocket radio. I had a JB Hifi gift card to use up, so I picked up a Bush digital radio to replace the Bauhn one that wouldn’t charge due to the port being buggered up.
couldn’t find any of the $9 ones in Richmond or around Geelong
There is a new Digital Radio Station in Melbourne now: Black Forest Radio
at the moment its playing the same song over and over again and my Digital Radio also giving me the message: A walk in the Black Forest with Dave
Any news and infomation on this new Digital Radio Station like who owns it. Would be helpful
Seems to be ARN, possibly in the space that was Elf Radio.

Monday morning, 11am in Melbourne a new station goes live on DAB+
It looks like Black Forest is from Pacific Star. 1116 SEN, 1377 3MP, Aussie and KOOOL have all changed from 64kbps to 56kbps - allowing for the extra 32kbps for Black Forest.
Darren Mc Kenzie is also listed as a tech at SEN.
EON Sports Radio, maybe?
I guess they could take space from Sky in Sydney and maybe RadioTAB in Brisbane - what about Adelaide and Perth?
I don’t see why SEN needs to be at 56kbps - why not run 3MP, Aussie and KOOL at 64kbps and SEN at 32kbps?
I would’ve thought that SCA is the network most likely to carry EON Sports Radio. I have noticed that the slideshow images of all Sydney SCA DAB+ stations have disappeared in recent times, which may be a sign that they’re sorting out things for a new station.
If Sky were carry it, then I would hope that the very pointless “Sky Sports Radio 2” (basically just the main station at a lower bitrate) is turfed.
Several months back Pacific Star made a pointless increase in the allocation of bits to their data - so the actual drop in audio bitrates is only 3kbps, which is incidentally the same as the difference in PAD between the 56kbps stations and Black Forrest (4.8kbps vs 1.8).
The Melbourne ones are still in place, which continues the absurdity of Triple M and Fox being ‘56kbps’ stations having only 32kbps on audio, and therefore sounding awful.
It is nearly impossible to purchase a DAB radio with the ability to receive the slideshows, a handful of car radios and one or two standalone models - whereas all radios benefit from better audio quality, even at the expense of slightly slower scrolling text.
More wasteful in Melbourne - RSN run a main channel, and then two ‘carnival’ stations that almost always simulcast RSN itself, and if they aren’t, they simulcast eachother; plus “TAB Live”, which appears to be a simulcast of Sky Sports Radio (and not 4TAB), which in turn usually covers the same racing as RSN.
Side note - Aussie from Pacific Star is a really good station. Well worth a listen.
Is it a delicious radio station? ![]()
How many kiloBYTES does it use?!!
