Digital Radio

Just wondering if anyone here actively tunes into any of the Super Radio Network Digital stations? Namely Dance Super Digi and Fun Super Digi?

According to Lava’s playlist tracker - these stations have been rolling the same playlist logs each day for an unknown period of time (I guesstimate at least a month).

Example from Fun:

22/08/2019 03:05:23 AEST Gloria Estefan Everlasting Love Fun Super Digi
21/08/2019 03:09:35 AEST Gloria Estefan Everlasting Love Fun Super Digi
20/08/2019 03:04:57 AEST Gloria Estefan Everlasting Love Fun Super Digi
19/08/2019 03:05:57 AEST Gloria Estefan Everlasting Love Fun Super Digi

Example from Dance:

23/08/2019 03:31:06 AEST Ian Carey Shot Caller Dance Super Digi
22/08/2019 03:32:00 AEST Ian Carey Shot Caller Dance Super Digi
21/08/2019 03:30:44 AEST Ian Carey Shot Caller Dance Super Digi
20/08/2019 03:31:31 AEST Ian Carey Shot Caller Dance Super Digi

I can’t tell what Gorilla is doing as the streaming is not working, and the playlist information is unavailable on Lava. But I’m guessing no-one has reported it to them as yet.

I thought it was just me, but i noticed a while back. I wonder if they change it on monthly basis? I dont listen anymore.

They’be been doing it for a fair while I think. I’m not sure how often they change it - Lava should be able to tell you.

Sounds like usual Caralis. Have you tried calling them for an answer?

There is currently a huge on-air promotion of Triple M’s digital stations on 3MMM 105.1 which has only started in the last week or so. This is the first time since they relaunched the current Triple M suite of stations that I’ve heard such a huge promotion of them.

It started with just one-liner stings mentioning Classic Rock digital only. Now it’s full promos and sweepers promoting Aussie, Country, Greatest Hits and Classic Rock with the tag line “There’s a Triple M for everyone”.

Yeah and also just to elaborate on your point there the DAB+ slideshow for Triple M classic rock also was changed today to just rock of ages Triple M classic rock and also another thing to note the automated based morning shift on Triple M classic rock is now. Being promoted as more music for your mornings.

Is Sydney Dab+ on low power, or is there transmission problems at Artarmon.

Driving the work vehicle around Sydney and where there is normally 100% signal and quality I am getting low to no signal with frequent dropouts.
Areas affected Rouse Hill, Erskine Park, St Clair, Kemp’s Creek and even Seven Hills that has decent LOS to Artarmon.

I don’t know if the radio in the vehicle is playing up. But normally I don’t get any dropouts and prefect reception in the areas listed above.

Having to listen on fm.

Yes there appears to be.

With my Kia Carnival, normally bullet proof with reception, had some issues around Cherrybrook. Along quite a fair extent of County Drive going up to the roundabout from the traffic lights at John Road at around 9 am , I was tuned into 2CH. In the old days the Mazda use to drop out at John Road just briefly at the traffic lights, the Kia never had issues until today.

It was ok along Boundary Road… That is in the good suburban grade reception area.

Here’s one for the brains at SCA.

Bring back Barry the Monkey and launch a Triple M “You’ll Never Know What We’ll Play Next” DAB+ station.

It’d be a good ‘at work’ station.

Lets wait to hear from @RFBurns and see if he knows something  . Looks like the repeater does not get into Mt Druitt.

I was out driving around Orchard Hills and could not get Penrith repeater as signal was almost non existent so would have been receiving from Artarmon.

32K AAC ? Worried it is all about quantity over quality. I am referring mostly to sound quality.

My thoughts too.

Seems to be a race to the bottom as far as quality goes. Hope we don’t see anything like Coles TAS in Brisbane that only runs at 16kbps, 32 is bad enough!

Re DAB issues in Sydney, haven’t noticed any issues up here near Newcastle (as of last night), may only be the western beam that is affected? Or has it only been occurring today?

No DAB issues at Artarmon, one or more of the Western Sydney Translators might be off, but only BA have access to that info.

If there’s reception difficulties out West, then likely translators are off/faulty & anything you’re getting is from Artarmon.

I don’t think Cherrybrook would get the reception from the translator…

Might be the “western beam”. Anyway will report back if I drive back to Cherrybrook.

Highly unlikely that one entire side & both halves (top & bottom) of the antenna array would fail, & we wouldn’t know about it.
The VSWR would alter quite a bit & likely drop out the transmitters. The VSWR on the DAB antennas at Artarmon is normal, so it’s not an issue with the “Western Beam” or any “beams” from Artarmon.
