Digital Radio

I was still struggling with it around 8:00am this morning. I haven’t checked since.

My home has pretty strong reception so difficult to know.

I haven’t had any issues up here either.

Can be interference difficult to tell with digital radio. A new applicance etc.

I can’t see an obvious difference in power levels here either.

2DAY restored their slideshow this morning. Noted this evening that 2GB (partly) restored their slideshow,
but the other previously mentioned stations still have absent slideshows.
In the case of SCA that’s plenty of stations.

SCA restored all their slideshow images for all of their Sydney DAB+ stations overnight.

That leaves; all of Super Radio Network stations, 2CH & some others. Some stations also have their Music/Artist RT feed frozen or dead.

UPDATE 12/4/2019:

ARN’s The 80’s & The 90’s (Sydney) noted with new(ish) slideshow images (since I last viewed anyway) . First time I’ve witnessed a slideshow image for The 80’s DAB station.

2CH, Super Radio Network stations & CW Remix slideshow images still MIA (Sydney).

I note that 2MBS Fine Music promotes their DAB outlet on air.
That makes two pre DAB+ established Sydney radio stations currently promoting
their DAB+ outlets on-air that I can recall.
Anyone know of others?

Currently staying in a Sydney CBD hotel for a couple of nights, where FM reception is terrible, only 2MBS and 2LND have good reception. 2RSR, 2SER and 2RPH from Kings Cross are okay, everything else including the Artarmon and Gore Hill majors is full of multipathing. Reception of these is better at home, 100 km north!

But digital radio reception is perfect here. It helps that I am only half a block from their Westfield Centrepoint infill site , A good example of where DAB makes a lot of sense.

I remember going to Brisbane CBD for work and the reception was also terrible. AM/FM and dab. It was a few years ago. Probably Hobart has the best CBD reception in Australia? Not sure on Perth and Adelaide. Darwin from memory was good too. How was 2rph on 100.5?

2RPH was okay on FM, all the AM stations were terrible too.

Adelaide is great for digital reception.

Atop the best metro site in mainland Aus, Mt Lofty, the signal is heard far and wide. The notch to protect Murray Bridge is lessened by the great LoS that way. Tailem Bend is not a problem.

Fine in the Barossa and Eden Valley. External reception fine on the South Coast too.

This Sydney CW-Remix slideshow image seams to take about 1/2hr to download. Must be a record for the slowest slideshow transmission rate of all Sydney stations or up there with the worst.
It never previously took that long to appear, either too many bit errors my end or station trying to preserve as many bits for audio reproduction as possible at expense of slideshow? No idea.

Anyway I note logo is an update on the 2017 image

I note this from the article:

For Warner, who is also V.P of WorldDAB, the European Union’s implementation of the new European Electronic Communications Code (EECC) marks a turning point for the radio industry. The directive, which took effect in December, requires all new car radios sold in the 27 EU member states to be capable of receiving digital terrestrial radio as well as any FM or AM functionality manufacturers may want to include.

Now why can’t she do that in Australia?

Exactly. I noted that piece as well & thought they should also be doing that in Australia to encourage the growth & wider adoption of DAB+ in the community (or in this case in the automotive user community)

Hmm, seems like they’ve removed the now long defunct (outside of Canberra anyway) Mix Network branding.

Aside from that, it really shouldn’t take half an hour for a slideshow image to download! One wonders if the other ARN DAB+ stations have similar problems…
