There’s no point doing that as they can put them on DAB, have lots of listeners, not pay royalties and get advertising. It’s a win-win-win.
The biggest hurdle with that would be that I don’t think most of their digital stations would be considered narrow enough. Which they may have a more narrow format than the AM/FM stations, most are still playing a wide variety of music that is or was hit music that’s quite well known.
I’ve noticed on the Digital Radio Plus page for Canberra that MMM Classic Rock & MMM 90s are now available on DAB+ there.
@dxnerd, can you confirm that to be the case? ![]()
MMMIX106… Has a good ring to it.
One day.
I can confirm both MMM Classic Rock and MMM 90s are on air in Canberra.
As an aside, I’m currently at Majors Creek SW of Braidwood and can get Canberra DAB here surprisingly enough.
Thanks for the confirmation. ![]()
That means that DAB+ listening options in Canberra have improved considerably thanks to those two stations, where you also have Nige!, as well as having 2CA available in stereo, just to name a few. ![]()
I suspect Canberra bit rates have been crushed somewhat though through this … Luxury listening at 96kbps or higher for commercial radio may be a thing of the past now.
NTS programming has returned to Melbourne for at least a few days now, but the station name is still Masters Golf.
Yeah, MMM 90s and Classic Rock are running at a fairly low bitrate, probably 32 kpbs from the sound of them.
Do we need that many? Lets see if it gets an FM… 98.9 might soon be free ![]()

One can only dream ![]()
Could one of the 9Bs be a redirect without actually chewing up another 32 kbps?
They would be just placeholders for new services. Sydney also has an ‘NN’ which is another feed of Nova Nation.
After my experience with the unhinged, it wont be long
From what i see its 2x 32kbps services here in Bris
Is Nova Nation also on DAB in Perth?
Which made me notice the rebrand and adjustment of PopDesi into “SBS South Asian” - https://www.sbs.com.au/audio/english/article/sbs-popdesi-renamed-sbs-south-asian-a-single-destination-channel-for-everything-sub-continental/ztsy065rj
I think in general these are good moves to have the region based stations, rather than the Radio 1/2/3 approach where the languages are scattered.
In the last few days (it seems) V180 has disappeared off DAB in Brisbane. Vision however remains
Slowly getting rid of the propaganda
